JOB TITLE
Substitute Instructional AssistantHOURS/MONTHS
As needed by DistrictJOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of instructional activities; to assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences; to perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to do other related work as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent to graduation from high schoolTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Must demonstrate knowledge of reading, writing, and math skills to support students' instruction program. This knowledge can be demonstrated by one of the following: 1. Certificate verifying No Child Left Behind "highly qualified status" issued by previous public school agency. 2. Two years of study (48 semester units) at an institution of higher education beyond high school. 3. Obtained Associate's (or higher) degree. 4. Passage of written Paraprofessional Examination. DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:- Assist instructional personnel with presentation of learning materials and in conduct of instructional exercises
- Tutors individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities
- Monitors and assists students in drill, practice, and study activities as follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel
- Directs students into safe learning and play activities and functions, and assists in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors
- Assists in management of student behavior through use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques
- May prepare and assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with individual or small groups of students
- Maintains a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information
- Operates and assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional media machines and equipment
- May assist students with toileting and personal hygiene
- Administers routine first aid and request assistance for non-routine injury or illness
- Maintains or assists in maintaining orderly, attractive and positive learning environment
- Participates in parent conferences, as requested;
- Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics
- Student behavior management strategies, and techniques
- Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar
- Basic arithmetical concepts
- Routine record management, storage and retrieval systems and procedures
- Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English and a second language, as required by the assignment
- Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment
- Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in enhancement of positive educational environment
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults Comments and Other Information
