Accounting Specialist

Brokerage/Accounting Specialist Overview:

Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Company (FUMICO), located in Great Falls, MT, is currently accepting applications for an Accounting Administrative Specialist. FUMICO is the largest domiciled P&C Insurance Carrier in the State of Montana. We are seeking an Brokerage/Accounting Specialist who will perform complex bookkeeping, accounting, payroll and administrative assignments that has 2+ years experience in a position with related duties. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and effectively organize and manage time. Experience in Microsoft Office Suites and familiarity with accounting software and online banking preferred. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agents, and vendors. Uphold and maintain discretion and care regarding confidential and sensitive personnel and company information, while demonstrating excellent attention for detail. The ability to be flexible and adaptive to successfully achieve the function of the position. The position is in Great Falls, Montana, and requires in-person work in the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE / RECEIVABLE/PAYROLL

Responsibilities:

• Assist with recording policyholder premium payments and issue premium refunds. . Setting up accounts in our agency management system, entering agency bill policies and transactions, reconciling agency payables and direct bill receivables, posting agency bill and direct bill receivables, and reconciling agent commission payables.
• Verify and process details of business transactions and post to general ledger, spreadsheets, and databases.
• Review and reconcile accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
• Assists in daily, monthly and yearly balancing/closing procedures.
• Manage, prepare, and organize workflow of invoices, documents, and A/P checks.
• Payroll and agent charges for commission processing.
• Provide accounting customer service to agents and insureds.
• Agent contracting and company representatives contracting.
• Secure Door Access Management — Operated and monitored electronic door entry systems to ensure only authorized personnel gained access to the facility, maintaining a safe and compliant environment.
• Phone System Operation — Served as the primary operator for multi‑line phone systems, routing calls efficiently and providing accurate information to staff and the public.
• This position will perform the above duties as well as any and all other duties as assigned necessary for the position.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform tasks which involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work on a daily basis. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
