Non-exempt/Hourly Job Summary Provides supervision for residential and hospital activities programs with 24-hour accountability under the direction of the Department Manager. Assures the provision of a safe, effective and appropriate activities program in accordance with the established philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the facility. Responsible for supervising the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the activities program. This includes assisting with completion of the activities component of the comprehensive assessment; and contributing to and/or delegating the contribution to the comprehensive care plan goals and approaches that are individualized to match the skills, abilities, and interests/preferences of each elder/patient. Supervising the activity program includes scheduling of activities, both individual and groups, implementation of the programs to determine if the activities meet the assessed needs of the elder/patient and making revisions if necessary. Portrays the facility in a positive manner within the building and in the community. Maintains the integrity of patient information keeping with HIPAA regulations. Oversees the staffing pattern schedule; delegates assignments; provides supervision of staff for 'mentoring' and orientation. Education/Training and Experience Must be a qualified Occupational Therapist; Therapeutic Recreation Specialist; Occupational Therapy Assistant or have a minimum of two (2) years full-time experience in a social or recreational time activities department in a health care facility within the last five (5) years and is eligible for the certification as an Activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990. Special Equipment/Skills Must demonstrate effective communication skills, documentation and organization skills. Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development of geriatric or disabled adult age groups and dementia related diagnosis and exhibits the ability to effectively interact with and provide programs for these age groups. Provides transportation for ambulatory wheelchair patients/elders to and from scheduled activity events, medical appointments. Valid driver license, clear driver's record. Work Environment Hazards Exposure to body substances and blood-borne pathogens. Long-term care environment and short term rehabilitation patients. Work Contact Group All organizational departments, elders, families, visitors, volunteers, community leaders and activity groups. Supervises Activities staff, volunteers and interns.
