Job Description

Description We are looking for a Medical Billing Specialist to join a healthcare company on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent role. This position focuses on accurate coding, claim documentation, and billing support while partnering closely with providers and care teams to help maintain compliant reimbursement practices. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding workflows, and payer-related requirements, along with the ability to manage detailed work in a fast-paced setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Examine clinical documentation to assign appropriate diagnostic and encounter codes in alignment with established classification standards and payer guidelines.
  • Prepare and enter claim, encounter, and billing-related information into designated systems with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
  • Work directly with physicians, primary care providers, and care coordination staff to support risk adjustment coding and resolve documentation gaps in real time.
  • Deliver guidance to clinical and administrative teams on coding accuracy, documentation quality, and proper level-of-service selection.
  • Stay current on regulatory updates, code set revisions, and reimbursement rule changes to ensure billing practices reflect the latest requirements.
  • Investigate coding and billing inquiries from multiple provider locations and provide timely, well-supported resolutions.
  • Code patient encounters within required turnaround times while maintaining quality and compliance expectations.
  • Protect patient privacy, follow organizational procedures, and carry out additional related duties as needed to support department operations. Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a medical billing, coding, or healthcare office environment required.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare billing practices required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with physicians, clinical staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and accurately.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred; English reading, writing, and speaking ability is required.
  • Familiarity with medical claims, collections, coding processes, and tools such as ePaces is preferred; relevant coding or risk adjustment certification is a plus.
