This position will interact with patients, staff, and physicians daily in helping them with their billing questions/concerns.
Other duties include:
Processing the patient's financial responsibility, processing insurance, and patient payments, Answer billing phone calls and messages in regards to billing statements, insurance, coverage, and past due accounts. Follow up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle time frame. Maintains detailed documentation in the patient account record of all billing activities. Reviews recent accounts for proper billing practices and reimbursement. Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and state Medicaid. Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary. Assist in claims charge entry and posting of payments. All accounts are to be reviewed for insurance or patient follow-up. Research and appeal denied claims. Set up patient payment plans and work collection accounts. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and other regulations. Other duties as assigned
Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:30a - 5:00p
Education/Certification :
High school diploma or equivalent
Required Knowledge:
Working knowledge of how a medical practice functions and basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, computers, fax machines, and copiers.
Experience Required :
At least one year of experience working in medical practice.
Skills/Abilities:
Patient confidentiality, working independently, phone etiquette, multi-tasking; customer service, time management, prompt response to assigned duties, organization, honesty and professionalism, courteous and kind, attention to detail, Microsoft Office applications.
