We share the same providers, staff, offices, and billing systems. Valley Mental Health is a "doing business as" (DBA) name used for services provided through our licensed outpatient mental health clinic. This allows us to offer services to different client populations and work with different insurance programs while maintaining the same commitment to quality care. Because we operate as one organization, you may see either Salem Psychiatric Associates or Valley Mental Health on paperwork, appointment information, billing communications, or when speaking with our staff. Our Billing Specialists play an essential role in supporting clients, providers, and the financial health of the organization. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to join our growing team. This position is responsible for managing behavioral health billing and accounts receivable activities, with a primary focus on commercial/private insurance billing . The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and experienced navigating payer requirements, claim resolution, and revenue cycle management within a behavioral health setting. This position may be performed on site or remotely from anywhere within Oregon, with availability required for virtual meetings, individual supervision, and occasional in person meetings. Job Duties Submit and manage electronic and manual behavioral health claims Review and resolve claim denials and rejections Reconcile accounts and research billing discrepancies Post insurance payments and adjustments Monitor accounts receivable and aging reports Verify insurance benefits and eligibility Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claim status and payment issues Prepare and send patient statements Coordinate collection activities as needed Maintain accurate client demographic and insurance information Update fee schedules and billing system data as needed Partner with the billing team to improve workflows and billing processes Participate in team meetings and organizational initiatives Required Qualifications Minimum 1-2 years of behavioral health billing experience Knowledge of commercial/private insurance billing processes Experience working claim denials, appeals, and accounts receivable Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team Proficiency with electronic billing systems and standard office software Oregon residency required Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of behavioral health billing experience Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid/OHP, and managed care plans Experience in outpatient behavioral health or psychiatric practice settings Work Environment This position may be fully remote or hybrid. Candidates must reside in Oregon and be available during regular business hours for team collaboration and meetings. While the primary focus of this role is private insurance billing, there may be occasional interaction with Oregon Health Plan (OHP) clients and related billing processes.
