Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and kind Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our Non Profit Agency, serving youth and adults with mental health and/or addiction issues. In this role, you will provide some duties within the entire revenue cycle process, ensuring accurate coding, billing, and claim submission for a variety of mental health services. Your training will help enhance operations, optimize revenue, and ensure compliance with healthcare guidelines. Responsibilities Accurately assign and interpret ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes to mental health records based on detailed review of clinical documentation. Prepare and submit insurance claims using advanced billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring timely processing of third-party payments. Review medical records to verify completeness and accuracy before billing submissions, adhering to medical coding guidelines. Assist with managing the entire billing cycle from patient account setup to follow-up on unpaid or denied claims, including medical collection efforts. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures that require precise coding for inpatient and outpatient services. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health insurance policies, claim processing procedures, and coding regulations to ensure compliance. Support the organization's revenue cycle management by analyzing billing patterns, identifying discrepancies, and implementing process improvements. Qualifications Proven experience in medical office settings with a strong understanding of medical terminology, records management, and billing procedures. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and billing software platforms used for electronic health record management and claim submission. In-depth knowledge of medical coding guidelines including
ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT
coding, DRG classifications, and coding for inpatient services. Familiarity with health insurance claim processing, third-party billing practices, and revenue cycle management strategies. Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex clinical documentation accurately. Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers and insurance companies. Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is a plus but not required; however, familiarity with medical coding guidelines is desired.
