$17.00 per hour SUMMARY The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC program - serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care. As a representative of the WIC program, you will be reaching out and touching lives of individuals in your community and making a positive impact on the lives of many. The candidate hired for this position will be required to: Interview clients and determine eligibility for program benefits according to categorical, residence, and income criteria. Enter client information into the computer and print out results to be filed in the client's chart. Issue food benefits according to diet prescription, obtain necessary signatures, file duplicate copies in an orderly manner. Schedule appointments, answer telephone in a polite professional manner and process calls efficiently. Alphabetically file and pull charts for clinics, screen immunization records, obtain 24-hout diet recall, weigh and measure participants and plot information on growth grids, obtain hematocrit/hemoglobin as required. Back up computer files on a daily basis, run daily, weekly, and monthly reports, mail out missed appointment reminders, stock supplies for clinics as required, and attend staff meetings and required trainings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to type at a rate of 30 WPM. Ability to work with the public in a high-volume manner. Skill in dealing with contentious clients. Skill in using a personal computer, calculator, copier, television, camera, film projector, and a multi-line telephone system.
M I N I M U M RE QU I RE M E N T S
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of clerical experience; two years preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Valid Texas Driver's License required. IT help desk or similar experience strongly preferred.
