Job Description

$50,000-$65,000 base depending on experience
  • Performance bonus + profit sharing $70,000-75,000 total comp in year one Saratoga Springs, NY
  • In office
  • Full-time Forgent is a specialty talent platform for financial services firms.
We're leading this search on behalf of our client, an independent wealth management firm in Saratoga Springs. Six people, about $375 million under management, roughly 380 local families, most of them a year out from retirement or newly into it. More than 45 five-star reviews, and the local paper's best-of award three of the last four years. Every call and every person who comes through the door reaches this seat first. No degree required, and no license required to start. The firm is open on background — you might come from the industry, or from a job where you've already shown you're good with people and careful with details. Come in wanting to be good at this, and they'll back wherever you take it from there. Why it's worth a look You're the first person every client meets. The firm has spent sixteen years earning the trust of families around Saratoga, and for most of them the relationship starts with whoever picks up the phone. Calls don't go to voicemail during business hours. Someone answers, and after a while that someone knows who's calling before they give their name. The team reads Unreasonable Hospitality and tries to run the office by it, which mostly comes down to paying close enough attention to people that you can do something with what you notice. If a client mentioned a surgery last month, you ask how it went. They can teach you the rest. The firm was clear about this. Schwab, the paperwork, the difference between an IRA and a Roth — all of that is learnable, and they'll teach it. What they can't teach is being easy to talk to on the phone, or striking up a conversation with someone who's just walked in and looks a little lost. If you have that, they want to hear from you, whether or not you've worked in financial services and whether or not you finished college. They take the work seriously and have fun. Six people in one office who genuinely like each other. There's a lot of joking, most of it at their own expense. Everyone owns their own work and is trusted to get it done without anyone checking behind them, but nobody's off on an island either, because the firm is small enough that you end up knowing what everyone else is working on. They want someone who carries their share and pitches in on everyone else's. They'll pay to get you wherever you want to go. If you want to get licensed, take a course, or study for the CFP down the road, the firm covers it. Some people here will want to move toward advisory work and some will want to be excellent at this job for a long time, and the firm is glad to have either. They mainly want you to think about it and tell them which way you're leaning. Base salary, plus a bonus tied to how the firm does that year, plus profit sharing starting in year two. 401(k) with a safe harbor match, paid time off, and help covering health insurance premiums.
