Experienced Civil Defense Litigation Legal Secretary Pay:
$50,000
- 70,000 per year (based on experience) Collins Einhorn Farrell PC is seeking an experienced Civil Defense Litigation Legal Secretary to support attorneys in our busy litigation practice.
This is not an entry-level position, a Paralegal position, or a Legal Assistant position. Prior experience performing Legal Secretary duties for civil litigation attorneys in a law firm is required. We are looking for an experienced litigation secretary who understands the workflow and deadlines of a civil lawsuit and can independently provide day-to-day secretarial support to multiple attorneys and their active caseloads. What You'll Do Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to civil litigation attorneys Prepare, revise, format, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other litigation documents File and e-file documents in Michigan state and federal courts Maintain attorney calendars and accurately track court, discovery, deposition, hearing, and other litigation deadlines Schedule and coordinate depositions, IMEs, hearings, case evaluations, mediations/facilitations, meetings, and other case-related activities Maintain electronic case files and matter information Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, mediators, and vendors Manage multiple attorneys, matters, deadlines, and competing priorities Transcribe attorney dictation or be willing to learn Required Qualifications At least 3 years of recent experience performing Legal Secretary duties for civil litigation attorneys in a law firm Hands-on experience with civil litigation document preparation, court filing/e-filing, calendaring, and deadline management Working knowledge of civil litigation terminology, procedures, and case workflow Strong Microsoft Word and Outlook skills Excellent proofreading, grammar, spelling, formatting, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment Civil Defense Experience Strongly Preferred We are particularly interested in candidates who have supported attorneys handling: Insurance defense Professional liability Transportation litigation Automobile/personal injury defense Premises and general liability Complex tort litigation Commercial litigation Appellate matters Experience with Michigan state and federal courts, PerfectLaw or similar legal case/document management systems, Tables of Contents/Tables of Authorities, and dictation is also preferred. Important Information for Applicants This position requires previous civil litigation Legal Secretary experience. We are not seeking a Paralegal or a Legal Assistant whose primary responsibilities have been substantive or billable paralegal work. We are also not seeking candidates looking for their first law firm or litigation position. Legal secretarial experience limited primarily to family law, criminal law, estate planning, probate, or transactional law does not, by itself, meet the civil litigation experience required for this position. We recognize that job titles vary among law firms. If your title was "Legal Assistant," we will consider your experience if your actual responsibilities were those of a civil litigation Legal Secretary rather than a Paralegal.
