DIVISION
Superior Court
CLASS DEFINITION
In a large Judicial District (Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport), this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor for major programs. In a geographic area location where Part A criminal matters are heard, this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor for criminal matters.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from a Chief Clerk or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Leads/supervises Assistant Clerks, Temporary Assistant Clerks, clerical, and other staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Coordinates office workflow and determines priorities; schedules, assigns, oversees, and reviews the work of staff; reviews, evaluates, and processes the more complex files, motions, orders and judgments in civil, criminal, and family areas presented by attorneys and pro se parties; monitors compliance with applicable statutes, case law and rules of court; schedules pre-trial and trial calendars; notifies parties of case status and court decisions; may assist with case flow management; assumes responsibility for monitoring civil, criminal, and family assignment lists; may establish and maintain office procedures; provides staff training and assistance; conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations; acts as a liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding office policies and procedures; performs the full range of duties as outlined in the Assistant Clerk, Judicial District, specification; may act for supervisor in supervisor's absence; may supervise staff; performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of civil, criminal, and family law; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply relevant state and federal laws and regulations; considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; some supervisory ability.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience:
Membership in the Connecticut Bar and two (2) years of experience as an Assistant Clerk, Judicial District.
