Location Downtown Full/Part Time Full-Time Exempt from Classified Service No Minimum Rate 61303.00 Min Pay Frequency Yearly Maximum Rate 92475.73 Max Pay Frequency Yearly Regular/Temporary Regular Minimum Qualifications Completion of 60 semester credits to include 15 semester credits in a computer related field is required. Experience in computers may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Recruitment Notes The Information Technology Specialist performs entry-level technical work in computer programming, systems analysis, or operating systems programming. This position supports new and existing information systems by writing code, testing, debugging, and preparing documentation. The role assists with system analysis, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and user and security configuration tasks. Incumbents work under the close supervision of an information technology professional while gaining hands-on experience across various platform environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Coursework or training in computer science, information systems, programming, or a related technical field. Experience with approved programming languages and database concepts. Familiarity with troubleshooting hardware and software issues. Basic understanding of local area networks (LANs) and system security concepts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design program logic and develop code using approved programming languages. Create program code to meet reporting and application requirements. Participate in the analysis and development of new computer systems. Assist in preparing database logical designs and program/system test data. Assist with maintenance and modification of existing applications. Troubleshoot and assist in resolving hardware and software issues. Assist with installation and configuration of hardware and software components. Help define users and security levels; maintain system security documentation and data tables. Participate in preliminary project analysis, including gathering information and assisting with system proposals. Prepare programming status reports and maintain hardware inventory records. Assist with local area network (LAN) troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance. Conduct problem resolution with users and provide basic technical support. Perform related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of programming concepts, systems analysis principles, and operating systems. Familiarity with approved programming languages and database design fundamentals. Ability to write, test, and debug program code. Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems with guidance. Basic understanding of local area network environments and system security concepts. Ability to follow technical specifications and prepare documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills appropriate to an entry-level technical role. Ability to communicate effectively with users and technical staff. Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to various platform environments. Ability to work effectively under close supervision and as part of a team.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with extended periods at a computer. Occasional travel may be required to support job fairs and/or external events. May involve light lifting (up to 10 lbs.) Work is performed under close supervision as part of a structured technology team environment.
