COURT ASSISTANT

Washington County, located in West Bend, has an excellent opportunity as a Senior Court Assistant. Responsible for assisting the Clerk of Courts, Register in Probate, and Clerk of Juvenile Court in the discharge of their duties of the office by providing support services for the Circuit Court system Qualified candidates must possess: High School Diploma or GED and four years of previous office experience or two years post high school education and one year experience preferably within a legal setting.

A minimum of two years of computer experience with knowledge and experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to keyboard at 50 words per minute. Pay based on experience. Duties/Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Establishes and maintains files for court proceedings.

Schedules court hearings, prepares court notices, and orders for the court as required.

Clerks court proceedings as required.

Receives, processes and files a variety of court related and other legal documents; dispenses information to the general public, other County Departments and attorneys in response to telephone inquiries or personal visits.

Maintains records management by entering information and data into computer system.

Prepares letters or documents of general, technical, and confidential nature.

Maintains accurate records and prepares reports, when necessary.

Performs minor bookkeeping duties.

Provides general court assistance as required.

Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.

Work Direction Received:

Works under the routine supervision of the Register in Probate.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Decision Making:

Decisions are made independently concerning scheduling of court hearings, responding to inquiries concerning the court system, processing and drafting of orders.

Interaction:

There is significant interaction with attorneys, law enforcement agencies, state, county, and local agencies, other County employees, judges and the general public.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of court practices and procedures, specific needs of court officials, statutes, rules and regulations affecting the office and general office practice and procedures. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, draft accurate documents and reports, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and interact effectively with co workers and the general public. Ability to fulfill physical demands of job, sensory demands (seeing and hearing), and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization).
