Job Description

The Betty and Leonard Phillips Deaf Action Center is seeking a professional, dependable, and organized Administrative Assistant to support the Executive Director and assist with the daily operations of our Shreveport office. This is a full-time, on-site position within a nonprofit organization serving the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community. The position requires someone who can manage multiple responsibilities, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative in a busy office environment. Responsibilities Provide administrative support to the Executive Director Prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, mailings, and other organizational documents Assist with Board of Directors meetings, including preparing Board packets, organizing materials, and coordinating meeting logistics Answer phones, greet visitors, take messages, and assist individuals contacting the office Receive interpreting service requests and route information appropriately Coordinate calendars, meetings, registrations, appointments, and related administrative details Process incoming mail and maintain organized electronic and paper records Assist with fundraising initiatives, including smaller fundraising activities and donor and sponsor correspondence Assist with planning and preparation for Las Vegas Night, the organization's major Gala Fundraiser held every two years Assist with community events, trainings, meetings, and other organizational activities Assist with administrative and financial recordkeeping using QuickBooks and Excel Maintain office supplies and general office organization Maintain professional and courteous communication with staff, consumers, donors, vendors, and community partners Qualifications Minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university required Previous administrative or professional office experience required Prior nonprofit experience strongly preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel QuickBooks experience preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational and time-management skills Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take initiative Experience with fundraising, donor relations, event coordination, or community outreach is a plus Experience working with the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community or knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus ASL & Deaf Culture Training Prior ASL knowledge is not required. The successful candidate will be required to complete a Basic American Sign Language (ASL) course and Deaf Culture course as part of their employment.
