Job Description
Job Summary Join our dedicated Police Department team as an Administrative Assistant, where your organizational skills and proactive attitude will play a vital role in supporting daily operations. In this dynamic role, you will manage administrative tasks, handle communication channels, and ensure the smooth functioning of department activities. Your attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities will help foster an efficient and responsive environment for both staff and the community we serve. Duties Receive requests for police assistance. Ascertain nature of request and dispatches appropriate service unit in accordance with established procedure. Determine urgency of call and elicit necessary information from the caller. Exercise tact and judgment in dealing with emergency situations; relay and receive further instructions from personnel at emergency scene. Take preliminary reports of crimes, incidents or requests for police service from people making inquiries at the police station. Disseminate information concerning wanted persons, stolen vehicles, missing persons and other information as may be received by telephone or other means. Maintain records of all incoming calls and dispatches through various logs and reports. Distribute department mail. Maintain Department's filing system; maintain reference file of correspondence, memoranda, pistol permits, and a variety of other materials. Compile statistics for department reports. Type a variety of correspondence, memoranda, forms and reports. Type materials in final form assuring spelling, grammar and punctuation are correct. Serve as a matron for female prisoners as needed and only if applicable training has been conducted. Prepare/track bills or record payment both manually and electronically. Ensure proper documentation of monies received into the police department and such money shall be forwarded to the Town Office Work hand in hand with Regional Prosecutor; copy case files; assist with sending discovery to defendants and attorneys; complete necessary subpoenas at the request of prosecutor and/or county attorney; complete JV petitions. Perform other related duties as required.
