Merit Hearing is seeking a friendly, dependable receptionist/administrative assistant to join our team. This individual will often be the first point of contact for patients and must demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills. The regular schedule for this position is Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., averaging approximately 24 hours per week. The position is based primarily in our Ankeny office. Candidates must be willing and able to occasionally work at our West Des Moines office when coverage is needed during their regularly scheduled Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday hours. The ideal candidate will also have some flexibility to pick up additional hours on Tuesdays or Fridays to cover employee absences, sick days, and paid time off. Tuesday and Friday availability, including the ability to work at either office when accepting additional hours, is preferred but not required. Additional hours are not guaranteed.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Experience Reception or administrative support Medical office operations Customer service Appointment scheduling Insurance verification Claims follow-up, and/or medical billing

Familiarity with basic medical terminology Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to adapt readily to change Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Gmail, Google Drive, word-processing software, Excel or Google Sheets, and electronic medical record systems Accurate and complete recordkeeping Ability to manage multiple priorities Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Familiarity with Quickbooks Online, health insurance benefits, medical billing, and claims processes is preferred

Job Summary:

This individual is expected to provide an exceptional experience for patients and healthcare providers while performing administrative and patient-support duties accurately, efficiently, and professionally.
Hours:
Part-time, averaging approximately 24 hours per week.
Supervision:
Supervised by the audiologist.
Major Duties:
The receptionist/administrative assistant will: Answer phone calls and respond to emails efficiently and courteously. Greet and register patients and notify the audiologist of their arrival. Scan documents and enter patient demographic information, insurance information, and other relevant data into the electronic medical record system. Maintain provider schedules and help optimize appointment availability. Confirm appointments for the daily schedule. Prepare outgoing packages and schedule USPS, FedEx, and UPS pickups. Maintain accurate records of patient encounters and thoroughly document communications with patients and healthcare providers. Receive and document hearing aids dropped off through the drop-off clinic. Receive and process patient payments and send invoices. Verify and document patients' insurance eligibility and benefits prior to appointments. Review explanations of benefits and remittance advice, and assist with insurance claim denials and appeals Communicate professionally with patients, coworkers, management, and healthcare providers. Conduct themselves professionally and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Help maintain a safe and efficient office environment by following established policies and procedures. Work independently while applying appropriate knowledge, judgment, and technical skills. Perform other related duties as assigned.
