This position performs physically demanding field work including installing strand, coaxial, and fiber optic cable, operating aerial equipment, and ensuring all work is completed safely and according to project specifications. The Aerial Lineman also assists with job site preparation, material handling, equipment operation, and site restoration while maintaining Universal Services' standards for safety, quality, and productivity. !! $1000 Sign-On Bonus !! Install strand, coaxial cable, and fiber optic cable according to project and customer specifications. Operate bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment safely. Climb poles using approved climbing and fall protection equipment when required. String and secure aerial cable using lashers, pulleys, and other rigging tools. Install hardware including anchors, guy wires, brackets, and support structures. Read and interpret construction prints, maps, and daily work packets. Prepare and maintain safe job sites including signage, cones, and traffic control devices. Operate hand and power tools including drills, tampers, mechanical hoists, and impact wrenches. Perform daily vehicle inspections and maintain assigned tools and equipment. Assist with cable pulling and transition work involving underground or conduit systems when needed. Perform job site cleanup and restoration following construction completion. Communicate with Foremen, Project Managers, and Warehouse staff to coordinate materials and workflow. Follow all Universal Services safety procedures and maintain compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and current DOT medical card may be required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in aerial or telecommunications construction. Experience operating bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment. Proficiency in pole climbing and use of fall arrest systems. Knowledge of aerial construction materials, tools, and installation methods. Ability to read and interpret construction prints, maps, and technical documents. Comfortable working at heights up to 50 feet. Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions. Strong safety awareness and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and within a crew environment. Preferred Skills Electrical Line Worker diploma, associate degree, or equivalent technical training. Knowledge of fiber optic systems, coax systems, or telecommunications troubleshooting. Experience mentoring entry-level laborers or groundmen. Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills. Physical Demands & Competencies Ability to safely climb poles and ladders up to 50 feet on a regular basis. Ability to lift and carry 50-60 pounds consistently throughout the workday. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods. Ability to maintain balance, coordination, and strength while working at heights. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and uneven terrain. Work Schedule This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Standard scheduling is Monday through Friday; however, flexibility is required for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and emergency response work when project demands require. Overtime opportunities may be available based on workload and seasonal construction demand. Training & Development Expectations New Hire Development Complete Universal Services onboarding and safety orientation. Receive hands-on training in PPE usage, pole climbing procedures, bucket truck operation, and fall protection systems. Demonstrate ability to identify aerial construction materials, cable types, and associated hardware. Learn safe job site setup procedures including traffic control and site restoration. Assist in strand and cable installation under direct supervision. Participate in daily safety meetings and demonstrate understanding of Universal Services safety policies. Ongoing Development Demonstrate the ability to independently construct and repair aerial telecommunications systems. Perform advanced aerial tasks including pole transfers, anchor installation, and cable tensioning. Cross-train in underground and ISP construction practices to support company-wide operations. Assist in mentoring and training laborers and groundmen to promote safe and efficient work practices.Similar remote jobs
