From pulling cable through commercial buildings to splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber networks, you'll ensure our installations are done right, on time, and to the highest Industry standards. This role requires technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety in challenging commercial environments. You'll work with modern Industry standard tools and equipment, be part of a supportive crew, and help keep Universal Services ranked among the top-performing telecom contractors in the nation. 401(k) with up to a 4% Employer Match Medical Insurance Dental and Vision Insurance Additional Life and AD&D Insurance Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance Personal Accident Insurance Legal and Identify Theft Protection Core Responsibilities Installation & Fiber Work Pull cable through commercial settings safely and efficiently in accordance to code and industry standards Build splice cases, panels, and other termination points, as well as install various other fiber optic network appliances. Break down and prepare cables of various sizes and compositions for fusion splicing. Prepare and splice individual fibers in accordance with industry standards and provided splice diagrams. Test and troubleshoot fiber optic networks for acceptance testing, issue identification, and fiber characterization Use of headend testing equipment and network troubleshooting methods Field Operations & Safety Follow safety procedures for all installation tasks, equipment use, and worksite protocol. Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work Documentation & Reporting Record installation and testing results accurately for project closeout Update supervisors on progress, challenges, and completion status Report and document any field issues, hazards, or damaged equipment immediately Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED (required) Previous experience in the telecommunications field (fiber preferred) Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines Computer proficiency, including use of specialized programs Analytical problem-solving skills with sound judgment and field safety awareness Ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly Valid, unrestricted driver's license and current DOT medical card Physical Demands & Competencies Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions Stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces when required Attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship Work Schedule Full-time, non-exempt position Standard schedule: Monday - Friday, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed Year-round work with local travel to job sites Training & Development Expectations New Competencies Fiber optic installation and splicing best practices Use of headend testing equipment and network troubleshooting methods Cable pulling and attachment techniques, building entry construction and general industry standards. Safety procedures for work in confined spaces, plenum spaces, class I, II hazardous environments, working at heights (bucket truck, scissor lift Lock out tag out procedures in commercial environments Project documentation and closeout processes Ongoing Refreshers Updated fiber optic construction and splicing standards Continuing education (2hrs every year) to maintain registered unlicensed power limited tech status with MN DLI. Field safety protocols and hazard identification New technology adoption for testing and installation Communication and coordination skills for crew-based workSimilar remote jobs
