Job Summary Perform the hands-on daily work of the cultivation team across propagation, vegetative growth, flowering, and harvest, following the crop plan and production schedule set by cultivation leadership. Work under the direction of the Senior Cultivation Technician to transplant, prune, defoliate, feed, and harvest plants to established SOPs and quality standards. Monitor plant health and environmental conditions, and report issues to the Senior Cultivation Technician. Keep work areas clean and compliant, and record every plant movement, tag, and waste event accurately in the state seed-to-sale traceability system, in compliance with the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act and Illinois Department of Agriculture craft grower rules. Key Responsibilities Cultivation & Plant Care Perform daily cultivation tasks across propagation, vegetative growth, flowering, harvest, and post-harvest handoff to processing, including cloning, transplanting, pruning, defoliation, trellising, watering, feeding, and harvesting Follow daily task assignments issued by the Senior Cultivation Technician, follow all cultivation SOPs and technique standards, and ask for direction when a task falls outside established parameters Plant Health & Monitoring Monitor plant health and environmental conditions during assigned tasks, including irrigation and fertigation delivery, nutrient application, and integrated pest management scouting Report pest pressure, deficiencies, and equipment faults or any off-standard condition to the Senior Cultivation Technician promptly; apply approved treatments only as directed and trained Compliance & Recordkeeping Record all plant movement, tagging, and waste disposal and inventory counts accurately in the state seed-to-sale traceability system, meeting Illinois Department of Agriculture requirements Facility, Safety & Sanitation Maintain sanitation of rooms, tools, and equipment, and follow facility SOPs, security and access protocols, and OSHA and safety standards on every shift Harvest Support & Team Participation Support harvest, drying, and curing activities and product handoff to processing Complete shift logs and production records, and participate in team training and start-of-shift briefings Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or a degree in horticulture, plant science, agronomy, or a related field preferred. Prior commercial cultivation, greenhouse, nursery, or agricultural experience preferred; licensed cannabis cultivation experience is a plus, but training is provided. Basic understanding of plant biology and indoor cultivation practices, or a demonstrated willingness to learn. Familiarity with Illinois cannabis regulations, including the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act and Illinois Department of Agriculture craft grower rules, preferred. Comfort using seed-to-sale traceability software and basic computer tools for data entry. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely, work as part of a team, and communicate issues clearly. Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping discipline. Must be 21 years of age or older and able to obtain and maintain an Illinois Department of Agriculture agent identification card, subject to a background check. Physical Demands Continuous movement throughout the cultivation facility, including grow rooms, dry and cure rooms, and mechanical areas, with extended periods of standing, walking, and hands-on work. Regularly lifts and carries up to 50 pounds, and may push, pull, bend, kneel, reach overhead, and climb ladders. Works in environments with elevated temperature and humidity, high-intensity lighting, and exposure to plant material, fertilizers, and cleaning agents; personal protective equipment is required. Extended or off-schedule hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required during harvest, inspections, and other peak periods. Mental Demands Requires sustained focus and consistency across repetitive, detail-oriented tasks, and the ability to spot plant health and quality issues early. Must read basic environmental and crop indicators, recognize when a condition falls outside standard, and escalate it promptly to the Senior Cultivation Technician. Keeps accurate records under time pressure while following a daily task list and adapting to shifting priorities. Requires managing stress associated with production targets and regulatory compliance requirements. Working Environment Works in a licensed indoor cultivation facility with controlled temperature, humidity, lighting, and airflow, subject to strict security, access, and sanitation protocols. Floor-based role, with time spent across cultivation areas and drying/curing rooms, plus limited time at a workstation for recordkeeping. Daily coordination with the Senior Cultivation Technician and the rest of the cultivation team, with regular contact with processing, quality, compliance, and inventory staff. Fast-paced at times, particularly during transplant, flowering, and harvest cycles, requiring clear communication and handoffs across shifts. Administrative time spent entering traceability data, completing shift logs, and attending team training and start-of-shift briefings.
