Position Summary The Section Grower is responsible for the health, quality, and timely development of crops within an assigned greenhouse section. This position is capable of performing all Assistant Grower responsibilities while taking greater ownership of crop decisions, growing schedules, plant quality, and day-to-day leadership within their assigned area. The Section Grower monitors crops throughout the entire plant life cycle and uses their knowledge of plant science and previous commercial growing experience to make and recommend adjustments to irrigation, fertilization, chemical applications, environmental conditions, and other crop-care practices. They must understand and effectively use greenhouse growing infrastructure and systems, including irrigation booms, PRIVA environmental controls, fertilizer systems, pesticides, Echos, water trees, and biological control agents. The Section Grower works closely with the Head Grower to ensure crops are grown on-spec and on-time according to Ready Week requirements. They are expected to learn the specific requirements and schedules of CMG's crops, identify problems early, communicate concerns and recommendations to the Head Grower, and provide day-to-day leadership to Assistant Growers and other employees working within their section.

Key Responsibilities Crop Quality & Growing:

Own the health, quality, and timely development of crops within the assigned section, ensuring crops meet specifications by Ready Week. Monitor irrigation, fertility, insects, disease, environmental conditions, and crop development; identify off-spec material; and make or recommend corrective actions in coordination with the Head Grower. Perform all Assistant Grower crop-care responsibilities as needed.

Fertilizer, Crop Protection & Compliance:

Safely mix and apply fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and other crop protection products according to established recipes, product labels, and company procedures. Understand and utilize biological control agents and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. Maintain accurate application records and ensure work within the assigned section complies with applicable pesticide requirements and the EPA Worker Protection Standard (WPS), including required safety practices, restricted-entry requirements, notifications, PPE, and application procedures.

Growing Systems & Section Management:

Understand and effectively operate CMG's growing infrastructure, including PRIVA environmental controls, irrigation booms, fertilizer and injection systems, Echos, water trees, irrigation equipment, and related greenhouse systems. Learn the schedules and specific growing requirements of assigned crops and identify equipment, irrigation, or environmental issues that could affect crop quality.

Leadership, Communication & Continuous Improvement:

Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to Assistant Growers and other employees working within the assigned section. Communicate crop conditions, priorities, problems, and recommendations clearly with the Head Grower and work effectively with Growing, Production, Maintenance, and other departments. Maintain required growing records, apply knowledge from previous growing experience, and identify opportunities to improve crop quality, consistency, and growing practices. Required Skills Must speak English Experience in the horticulture industry Understanding of plant biology and treatment chemistry Ability to stay self-motivated to complete tasks and identify work that needs to be done Detail oriented and committed to perfecting each crop that you grow Problem solving attitude when approaching challenges Must be willing to learn from mistakes and have a teachable attitude Recommended Skills College-level education in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, Controlled Environment Agriculture, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred. Previous commercial growing experience in a greenhouse, hydroponic, cannabis, nursery, controlled-environment agriculture, or related growing operation required. Strong understanding of plant science, including plant nutrition, irrigation, environmental conditions, plant growth and development, insects, and diseases. Experience mixing and applying fertilizers and crop protection chemicals, with the ability to understand product labels, application rates, and safety requirements. Working knowledge of pesticides, biological control agents, IPM practices, crop scouting, and Worker Protection Standard (WPS) requirements. Experience with or ability to quickly learn commercial greenhouse systems, including PRIVA or similar environmental controls, irrigation booms, fertilizer/injection systems, Echos, water trees, irrigation equipment, and other growing infrastructure. Ability to learn detailed crop schedules, specifications, and the individual growing requirements of CMG's crops. Previous experience working in another commercial greenhouse or similar growing operation strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability and experience providing direction and support to employees. Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate crop conditions, concerns, priorities, and recommendations to the Head Grower. Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively with Growing, Production, Maintenance, and other departments. Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain one.
