Description Benefits Description This is a part-time, (19 hours per week) non-benefited position Position Summary The CWC Ag/Equine Livestock Technician position performs a variety of daily skills including: cleaning stalls, corrals and pens, feeding and medicating livestock, unloading hay, dragging/watering the indoor and outdoor arena, unlocking/locking the facility during weekend events and other various duties related to maintenance and safety of the CWC Ag/Equine Complex. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities RUSLR Ag/Equine Complex Must be comfortable operating equipment such as skid steer, tractor and water truck. This equipment will be used to clean livestock corrals and unload/move hay, shavings and various equipment at times. Assisting the Ag/Equine Complex Director of overseeing student stalls/corrals and ensuring students are maintaining cleanliness, neatness and personal tack is stored accordingly. Assisting the Ag/Equine Complex Director and Operation Technicians in overseeing hay and shaving quantities used by students. Preparing the indoor and/or outdoor arenas for weekend events. This includes but is not limited to unlocking the facility, opening gates, connecting the sound system, bringing in livestock, dragging/watering the arenas etc. Will ensure students, spectators and competitors during events are following the Ag/Equine Complex rules and regulations. Will notify Operation Technicians if fences, sprinkler systems, automatic waterers etc. are not operating correctly. Assist with mowing, pest control, spraying equipment, applying fertilizers, snow removal including sidewalks, parking lots etc. Typical Qualifications Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience Two (2) years or more experience operating equipment and working hands-on with livestock. Licenses/Certifications Must possess a valid drivers license Will be required to become an OSHA certified fork-lift operator Equivalency Statement Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic livestock care including but not limited to identifying illness/sickness, giving medication appropriately, safely moving them to and from the arena etc. Skill in operating heavy equipment, including but not limited to skid steer, tractor, water truck, mower, dump truck, forklift etc. Assist with performing seasonal duties including but not limited to watering system management and winterizing equipment etc. Capable and comfortable with assisting CWC employees, overseeing weekend events/clinics and implementation of rules and regulations with competitors and spectators to ensure efficiency and safety Level of Supervision This position operates under the direct supervision of the CWC Ag/Equine Complex Director. Equipment Used Operation of various types of equipment including but not limited to skid steer, tractor, water truck, forklift, mower etc. Physical Requirements Various tasks in this position will result in a fairly physically demanding environment. Physical activities will generally involve walking, standing, lifting (75+ lbs), reliable dexterity as well as mental application to perform and complete emotional stability, instructions, awareness and problem solving. Environmental Conditions There is a risk of heat stroke and/or frostbite. Temperatures can range from 105 degrees F to below -50 degrees F. Tasks are often completed in very windy or dusty conditions, personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is necessary.
