Job Description

Position Summary The Commercial and Farm Underwriting Manager position is responsible for offering leadership, support and guidance to the Underwriting teams to aid in the development of their underwriting skills and to assist in the growth of the Company's Farm and Commercial books of business. This position is also responsible for recommending and assisting in the development of changes to product coverages, forms, guidelines and pricing and completing underwriting audits for the Commercial and Farm Underwriting teams. Primary Responsibilities Lead and manage the underwriting staff in review, assessment and approval of quotes, new business and endorsement requests submitted to the Company. Oversee the processing of all applications, renewals, endorsement requests, non-renewals, policy change notices and cancellations ensuring guidelines and underwriting philosophies are being followed. Complete underwriting audits and assess a sampling of work processed by underwriters. Establish and implement business strategies including product development, pricing, and project implementation; underwriting guidelines; portfolio mix planning and results (new/renewal); and development of product contracts, forms and endorsements. Collaborate with the Marketing and Underwriting teams to help educate agencies on products and technologies. Ensure compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations pertaining to products & rates. Establish competitive analysis practices. Keep current with industry trends and peer competitors' actions. Work with Marketing, Claims, and IT to achieve desired business results. Stay abreast of current industry trends and state issues. Utilize this knowledge to formulate appropriate recommendations to manage and drive product decisions consistent with established strategies. Stay current on advisory organization forms/rules. • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Four-year undergraduate degree, CPCU designation or equivalent work experience Ten years of property and casualty insurance industry experience Three or more years of management experience Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills Strong organizational skills Multi-task oriented Detail oriented Ability to work individually and in a team environment Ability to create positive and collaborative working relationships Strong leadership skills Excellent written and verbal skills Working conditions This position may be performed at the company headquarters in a traditional office environment full-time or a hybrid schedule of part-time at the company headquarters and part-time at one's remote office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and filing cabinets. This position will frequently be required to stand, walk, use hand to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
