POSITION PURPOSE

The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking qualified candidates for the part-time position of Ice Arena Staff in the Department of Public Services at the Birmingham Ice Arena. Under the supervision of the Ice Arena Manager, the Ice Arena Staff may be assigned to concessions/ticket booth operations, ice arena maintenance and Zamboni operations, or a combination of both, based on the needs of the facility and the employee's qualifications and training.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Concessions & Ticket Booth:

Greet and assist the public while providing excellent customer service. Operate the ticket booth and handle cash transactions. Balance and reconcile cash registers. Monitor and manage inventory. Prepare and serve food products. Maintain clean and sanitary concession areas. Additional related responsibilities as assigned.

Ice Arena Maintenance & Zamboni Operations:

Perform general facility, mechanical, and maintenance tasks. Assist with the operation of equipment, including the ice resurfacer (Zamboni), ice edger, and other related equipment. Assist with preparing the ice and facilities for practices, games, and other events. Monitor temperature and humidity levels. Take direction from senior Zamboni drivers on tasks related to ice resurfacing and facility operations. Additional related responsibilities as assigned.

NECESSARY SKILLS

Ability to provide strong customer service and work effectively with the public. Willingness and ability to work with food preparation for employees assigned to concessions. Ability to operate mechanical equipment, including a Zamboni, following appropriate training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Possession of h high school diploma, or equivalent Line cook or food preparation experience a plus Experience in building maintenance or facilities a plus Experience with medium or heavy equipment a plus Employees will receive training appropriate to their assigned duties. Employees assigned to Zamboni operations will be trained under the direction of senior Zamboni staff.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift over 50lbs Ability to ascend and descend a 12-foot ladder Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Ability to work in cold temperatures Ability to lift arms above the head for tasks such as changing light bulbs and washing windows Line cook or food preparation experience is preferred
