Job Title:
R D Technician Job Description The Engineering Technician II will support engineering and cross-functional teams in the development, optimization, validation, and transfer of manufacturing processes and technologies for both new and existing products. This position requires a growing level of independence and contributes significantly to problem-solving, documentation, and production transition activities. Responsibilities Set up, operate, and adjust equipment for development and pilot manufacturing processes. Produce products through the entire development lifecycle, including range-finding, characterization, design verification, and validation activities. Conduct inspections and testing using appropriate measurement and inspection tools. Collect, analyze, and accurately document process and inspection data using approved systems and tools. Support the development and execution of measurement programs, validation activities, and gauge studies as required. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and improve manufacturing processes, fixtures, tooling, and work methods. Assist in the creation, revision, and maintenance of manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow documentation, setup sheets, visual aids, and training materials. Train operators and technicians on approved processes, equipment, and quality requirements. Serve as a technical support resource during new product introductions and process transfers. Apply continuous improvement and lean principles to enhance efficiency, quality, ergonomics, and safety. Work in various environments, including laboratories, cleanrooms, pilot production, or manufacturing areas, while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Essential Skills 1+ year of material testing experience on Instron or MTS equipment. Ability to measure mechanical properties like tensile strength, compression, and fatigue for metals, plastics, composites, and more. Proficiency with measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers. Strong data collection skills. Ability to follow test protocols. High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 2 years of relevant technician or manufacturing experience. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, and work instructions. Working knowledge of quality systems and principles, including Good Documentation Practices, SPC concepts, and basic ERP usage. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or technical certification is helpful. Experience supporting pilot manufacturing or new product introduction activities. Experience with complex assemblies and equipment setup. Exposure to tooling, fixtures, or equipment optimization. Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities. Basic computer proficiency. Ability to work in a fast-paced, self-directed, team-based environment. Work Environment This role requires onsite work during the 1st shift, from 6 AM to 2:30 PM. The work environment includes laboratories, cleanrooms, pilot production, and manufacturing areas, emphasizing a clean, safe, and organized setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Fridley, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $37.00/hr.
