Job Description

Job Summary Northwest Landworks is seeking an experienced Excavation Foreman / Project Lead to oversee and effectively manage residential/commercial projects from start to finish. This role is responsible for leading crews, ensuring safety compliance, coordinating with project managers, and delivering high-quality excavation work on schedule and within budget. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of excavation techniques, and experience operating heavy equipment.
Responsibilities Project Oversight:
Supervise and coordinate excavation operations, ensuring work is completed efficiently and according to project plans.
Crew Leadership:
Direct and oversee excavation teams, assign tasks, and ensure proper training and adherence to safety protocols.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Operate and oversee the use of heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, skidsteers, loaders) and ensure proper maintenance.
Site Preparation & Grading:
Ensure accurate site preparation, trenching, grading, and utility installation while maintaining specifications.
Safety Compliance:
Enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and ensure a safe working environment.
Material & Resource Management:
Coordinate the delivery of materials, schedule subcontractors, and track project costs to maintain efficiency.
Communication & Reporting:
Maintain clear communication with project managers, clients, and crew members, providing progress updates and resolving issues.
Problem-Solving:
Identify and troubleshoot issues that arise on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines. Qualification & Skills -
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of excavation, site preparation, or civil construction experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role. -
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver's license (CDL Class A preferred). Heavy equipment operator certification (preferred). -
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in reading blueprints, site plans, and utility maps. Strong understanding of excavation, trenching, and grading techniques. Knowledge of GPS and laser grading equipment. -
Soft Skills:
Excellent leadership and communication abilities. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to make quick, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Requires physical stamina, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, and operating machinery for extended periods. Must be able to work in confined spaces and around heavy equipment.
