at Department of Corrections in East Saint Louis, Illinois, United States Job Description Position Overview The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Corrections Grounds Supervisor located at Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will be adept in caring for the facility grounds by maintaining all lawns, yards, roadways, ditches, and facility parking lots as well as the upkeep and maintenance of all lawn equipment and accessories, large tractors, snow removal equipment, and utility vehicles. The candidate must have the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions for snow/ice removal, mowing lawns, patching roads, and cleaning up after storm related damages. Duties will include supervising Individuals in Custody and leading by example and instruction. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply. Essential Functions Monitors individuals in custody in the maintenance of lawns and drives at Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center, consisting of trees, shrubbery and flower planting, watering, fertilizing, mowing grass, hedge trimming, tree pruning and removal, etc. Monitors the maintenance of walks, ditches, or water sheds, and roadways around the institution. Directs the use of power equipment such as chain saws, power movers, tractors, and graders in the maintenance of institution and grounds. Responsible for collecting dumpsters throughout the facility and disposing of trash through use of trash compactor. Reports infractions of rules by individuals in custody. Coordinates the use of pesticides, herbicides and other toxics used in the maintenance of institutional grounds. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
