Under general supervision of the Public Works Director or Team Leader III, the incumbent in this specialized position will operate a bucket truck with a 65' vertical boom to trim trees and vegetation with chainsaws and other tools (approximately 70% of the time). The incumbent also operates a variety of light and moderately heavy equipment, automotive vehicles, and tools in the maintenance of grounds, streets and other property throughout the city (approximately 30% of the time). This is a safety-sensitive position requiring screening for illegal substance and alcohol use . Work is reviewed through observation upon work completion for compliance with work orders and established policies and procedures.

Operates aerial lifts and chainsaws to maintain trees, enhance their health and appearance, and ensure safety; prunes, shapes, and trims trees; removes dead or diseased branches and clears debris; uses handsaws, pruning hooks, shears, and clippers. Trims vegetation in various parks throughout the city. Operates mowers, trimmers, and edgers in the maintenance of city parks; operates a variety of power and hand tools including shovels, rakes, pokers, all size chainsaws, and paint machines. Operates a wide range of vehicles including but not limited to, front loaders, backhoes, bush hogs, trucks, trailers, tractors, bucket truck, dump truck, and genie lift. Picks up debris and deceased animals from city streets in order to maintain the cleanliness of public areas.

High School diploma or equivalent, one (1) year experience in semi-skilled or skilled labor, supplemented by one (1) year of experience using chainsaws and pole saws, using and operating moderately heavy vehicles and light to heavy equipment. One (1) year of experience pruning vegetation and trees using chainsaws in a boom lift required. Must have valid FL CDL, Class "B".
