Job Description
Grounds Maintenance II requires a minimum of two years of experience and starts at $16.50/hour. Under direct supervision of a Crew Chief, the Grounds Maintenance position is responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work of ordinary difficulty in the care, keeping, and beautification of all parks, landscape, grounds, and recreation facilities.
Essential Job Functions Clean, repair, and maintain grounds, play areas, park properties and facilities, irrigation systems, landscaping; ensure all facilities and public areas are fully functional. Service the landscaped areas of the parks and recreation department; mow, trim, weed, and assist with irrigation maintenance. Apply allowable pesticides and fertilizers following all safety and compliance guidelines. Perform manual and minor maintenance in relation to grounds, facility, and park amenities. Serve as gardener, caretaker, park maintenance worker, and janitor for any and all service needs of the department; may engage with residents and visitors regarding recreation area conditions. Perform tasks involving the use of mowers, edgers, hand tools, power tools and equipment, and the operate various City vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be eighteen years of age or older; Must possess a high school diploma or a GED; One (1) year experience in the care and maintenance of parks, landscapes, and similar grounds; Must able to safely operate and/or utilize beach rake, riding mower and mule, backpack blower, hand blower, stick edger, weed eater, chainsaw, Toro Workman, pressure washer, all misc. sharpening blade grinders, hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, and other equipment as assigned or; An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Operate and use hand and power tools, small trucks, mowing equipment, and other equipment Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, possibly in inclement weather. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Ability to communicate both verbally and written, and possess good people skills.
