The Grounds Worker reports to the Manager of Grounds and is accountable to perform all work related to the maintenance and repair of lawns, walks, roads, parking lots, gardens, and other grounds. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. Principal Accountabilities Specific duties include but are not limited to: routine cleaning of grounds; shoveling snow; operating trucks and power equipment; leveling off ground; hauling and spreading topsoil; felling and removing trees, branches, etc.; digging ditches with pick and shovel; moving furniture and equipment; loading and unloading trucks and trailers; assisting trades people in their duties; performing minor painting, and other related duties as assigned. Qualifications This position is best filled by an individual who has 4 or more years of commercial grounds and/or landscaping / snow removal experience, or equivalent education. They must be able to perform tasks requiring physical strength; possesses good hand-eye coordination; and be able to complete several tasks in specified time frames without immediate supervision. The ability to read, write and understand directions is required. A current valid Rhode Island Class 2 Operator's driver's license is required. RI Pesticide Licensure preferred. This position is subject to the successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, criminal background check and division of motor vehicles check. This position requires the ability to exercise considerable physical effort in lifting and swinging an ax, pick, shovel, etc.; pushing lawn mowers and other grounds-related equipment; lifting, moving and swinging dead weight when necessary, and carrying supplies and materials. Position requires exposure to discomfort arising from having to work for long periods in the sun and heat, dampness, snow and cold.
