Job Summary:
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. We have an exciting opportunity for an A&P Mechanic supporting Production Manufacturing at our facilities located at either Gray Butte (Palmdale) or El Mirage (Adelanto) in sunny Southern California. In this role you will be working on cutting-edge technology, utilizing your experience to support the manufacturing and assembly of new aircraft systems, integrating advanced capabilities into airborne sensing and weapons systems, and ensuring quality production of customer platforms including MQ-1C Gray Eagle, MQ-9A Reaper, and MQ-9B SkyGuardian, SeaGuardian, and Protector systems. Responsible for production-level activities across the entire Unmanned Aircraft System, you will be assembling, modifying, and configuring aircraft and ground control stations to meet customer specifications and production requirements, executing functional ground tests, and supporting acceptance test activities. This includes production flightline activities such as preflight inspections, launch and recovery operations, and postflight verification.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will assemble, troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and maintain aircraft and ground support equipment in support of production manufacturing and delivery activities in accordance with manufacturing work instructions and maintenance documentation. Support production teams in meeting manufacturing schedules and quality standards. Perform work on airframe and powerplant during production assembly and final acceptance activities. Troubleshoot aircraft and engine systems during production testing to identify and resolve issues prior to customer delivery. Develop and review manufacturing processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality. Assist in training efforts for production personnel and customers. Perform scheduled production inspections and functional checks. Inspect powerplant and related components during assembly and at key production milestones, adhering to company approved procedures, manufacturing work instructions, and/or government technical order requirements. Review records to ensure all required documentation is completed in accordance with established company procedures and customer technical order requirements. Perform all launch and recovery tasks of aircraft during production acceptance flights, including ground operations, pre and postflight items, ground observer responsibilities, and inspect, test, maintain and operate ground support equipment. Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and manufacturing best practices. Other duties as assigned or required. Under general supervision and regular review, this position is responsible for serving as a Sensor Operator and performing additional duties similar to those of a co-pilot/Second in Command for company aircraft during test, production, and demonstration flights. Familiar with all aspects of the company's family of Aircraft Systems, including aircraft hardware/software, ground control station systems, operational/experimental ground and flight testing. This role participates in collaboration with Test Aircrew, Flight Test Engineers, Project Engineers, and company management to support the development and employment of new aircraft and flight system technologies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a Sensor Operator for production, tests and demonstration flights for company aircraft.
  • Operate basic sensor systems such as cameras and radars to collect real-time data during test flights.
  • Assist UAV Pilots in coordinating flight paths test point execution, and sensor positioning for optimal coverage.
  • Participates in the demonstrations and testing of aircraft systems and payloads.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on progress, risks and changes.
  • May assist in training initiatives under guidance of senior personnel.
  • May deliver training materials, such as presentations, manuals, and practical exercise.
  • Work closely with Test Pilots and Flight Test Engineers to execute test plans, test cards, test schedules, mission execution, mission briefs, and debriefs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete appropriate and relative company training courses for flight operations and test director to gain appropriate system knowledge required to fulfil primary duties.
  • Conducts technical reviews of flight test plans for sound test techniques, and provides safety analysis of risks, hazards, and mitigation strategies with internal team members.
  • Coordinate and reviews test points and run cards with senior level aircrew for the safe execution of flight test maneuvers, with special emphasis on aerodynamic performance and flying qualities of stability control systems and autopilot systems.
  • Author, compile technical documents and memorandums, and provide verbal counsel to more senior staff advising on safety aspects of flight test risks and mitigations.
  • Provides centralized coordination and communication with flight test team members and subject matter expert design engineers in preparation for flight test.
  • Represents Flight Operations on various boards to include software design and changes, levels of test readiness such as preliminary design, final design, ground test and flight test, program introduction and program readiness reviews.
  • Perform the duties of Test Director for a multi-disciplinary test team when required.
  • Represents Flight Operations in a technical advisor capacity as needs dictate.
