Job Description
We are seeking an experienced On-Site Field Superintendent to manage the construction of our custom single-family homes. In this role, you will be stationed full-time on-site, managing daily trade labor while executing standard project management duties. We are a hands-on, family business with a long-standing history of building quality custom homes since 1976. This is a non-tool-swinging position. Your day is focused on site management: enforcing quality standards, managing project finances, maintaining build schedules, and serving as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, designers, and inspectors. You must combine strong field authority with solid business organization and scheduling skills.
Core Field Leadership Responsibilities Daily Site Supervision:
Direct all daily operations on-site, ensuring a clean, safe, and productive workspace.Subcontractor Management:
Schedule and supervise trade subcontractors. Ensure work meets quality standards, safety guidelines, and architectural plans.Quality Control:
Conduct proactive inspections of every build phase (e.g., framing, mechanical rough-ins, drywall) to catch and fix errors early.Inspections & Codes:
Coordinate all municipal inspections, utility hookups, and safety compliance checks.Core Project Management Responsibilities Scheduling:
Update and maintain the construction timeline using management software, predicting and solving material or labor bottlenecks to keep the project on track.Client, Architect & Designer Communication:
Lead regular on-site walkthroughs with clients to answer questions, provide progress updates, and process standard change orders.Interior Design Coordination:
Collaborate closely with interior designers to review finish schedules, interior elevations, and material selections (e.g., tile, cabinetry, lighting fixtures). Ensure all designer specifications are accurately budgeted, approved and translated to the field to be implemented correctly by subcontractors.Financial Oversight & RFIs:
Track on-site budgets, initiate purchase orders, manage material deliveries, and write formal Requests for Information (RFIs) to architects or designers when plan issues arise.Project Handover:
Drive a thorough punch-list process to complete final details before homeowner move-in, and manage initial warranty handoffs.Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years managing residential custom home builds from groundbreaking through final completion.Technical Skills:
Strong ability to read and interpret residential architectural plans, structural engineering blueprints, and interior design finish schedules/elevations. Solid knowledge of residential building codes and building practices.Management Mindset:
A career path focused on management, scheduling, and subcontractor oversight rather than physical manual labor.Software Fluency:
Daily experience using standard construction software (e.g., Adaptive, Excel and email)Communication Skills:
Clear, professional, and reliable verbal and written communication styles for interfacing with clients, trades, designers, and team members.
