Job Description
Sales Manager - Residential Construction A growing residential construction and remodeler is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead the sales function, develop new business, and help drive continued company growth. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the sales process from initial client inquiry through signed contract. The Sales Manager will work closely with ownership, design, estimating, pre-construction, and production teams to ensure prospective clients receive a professional and consistent experience. The ideal candidate combines strong sales leadership and relationship-building skills with an understanding of residential construction, or remodeling projects . Experience leading a team. This individual should be comfortable selling high-value projects, discussing budgets with homeowners, and guiding clients through a consultative sales process. Key ResponsibilitiesSales Leadership & Business Development Lead and manage the residential sales process from initial inquiry through signed design and construction agreements. Develop and execute sales strategies that support company revenue and growth objectives. Qualify prospective clients based on project scope, budget, timeline, location, and overall fit. Conduct discovery meetings to understand homeowners' needs, priorities, expectations, and investment goals. Build strong relationships with prospective clients and serve as a trusted advisor throughout the sales process. Present company capabilities, project approach, design-build process, preliminary budgets, and proposals. Maintain consistent follow-up with prospective clients and move opportunities effectively through the sales pipeline. Develop referral relationships with architects, designers, real estate professionals, past clients, and other industry partners. Identify new business development opportunities within targeted residential markets. Represent the company at networking events, industry functions, community events, and other business development opportunities. Sales Management & Strategy Establish and monitor sales goals, conversion rates, pipeline activity, and revenue forecasts. Maintain accurate CRM records and provide regular pipeline and sales reporting to ownership. Evaluate lead sources and conversion results to help determine where the company should focus its sales and marketing resources. Partner with marketing to develop campaigns, events, referral programs, and other lead-generation initiatives. Help develop and improve sales presentations, proposals, follow-up strategies, and sales processes. Provide leadership with market feedback regarding client expectations, competitive activity, project pricing, and emerging opportunities. As the company grows, recruit, train, mentor, and manage sales professionals. Client & Project Collaboration Develop a strong understanding of each client's vision before transitioning the project into design and pre-construction. Work closely with designers, estimators, and pre-construction professionals to establish realistic project expectations. Communicate preliminary construction budgets and help homeowners understand the relationship between design decisions, project scope, and overall investment. Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure commitments made during the sales process are clearly communicated internally. Maintain relationships with clients throughout the project and after completion to encourage referrals and repeat business. Ensure the sales process reflects the company's standards for professionalism, responsiveness, transparency, and customer service. Qualifications 7+ years of successful sales or business development experience, preferably within residential construction, remodeling, custom homebuilding, architecture, interior design, or design-build . Previous sales leadership or sales management experience preferred. Proven ability to sell high-value products, projects, or professional services using a consultative sales approach. Strong understanding of the residential construction and remodeling process. Ability to discuss project scope, construction concepts, preliminary budgets, schedules, and expectations confidently with homeowners. Experience working with architectural plans, drawings, specifications, and project proposals is preferred. Strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities. Comfortable working directly with homeowners, executives, designers, architects, estimators, and construction professionals. Experience using CRM and sales pipeline management systems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously. Self-motivated, accountable, and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented environment. Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a relationship-driven sales professional who understands that residential construction sales is about trust, not transactional selling . They will be comfortable working with homeowners making significant financial and emotional investments in their homes. This individual will know how to qualify opportunities, establish credibility, communicate value, manage expectations, and confidently ask for the business. They will also understand that a successful sale must ultimately become a successful construction project. Compensation Competitive base salary plus performance-based incentive or commission structure. Total compensation will be designed to reward both individual sales performance and overall company growth.
