Job Description

Code Inspector I Overview - Join our dynamic team as an Inspector, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of City coeds within the city. Under general supervision, performs inspections of properties for compliance with zoning and related codes and ordinances. Work involves responding to complaints from the Mayor's Office, Council member offices, Director's office, Occupational License Office, and the general public; writing violations of junk vehicles, high grass, weeds, and litter on private property; completing an information sheet for the City Attorney's office for the court; checking vacant houses for open windows and doors and boards when necessary; checking on blighted homes and abandoned homes; writing court summons, issuing warning violations, and testifying in City and Parish court. Reports to the Code Inspector II. Minimum Qualifications - Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) or vocational school diploma supplemented by nine to twelve months of experience in related code, housing, building inspection work. This position will work a flexible schedule that will include evening and weekend hours. Must possess a valid Louisiana State Driver's License.
NOTE:
An Associate's degree or higher may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience. Proof must be submitted verifying any claim of education.
