The MDU Construction Inspector is responsible for inspecting, auditing, and supporting construction activities associated with the deployment of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) telecommunications networks to multi-dwelling unit (MDU) properties . This position supports both Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) construction and works closely with construction contractors, engineering teams, property stakeholders, and internal project teams to ensure construction is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved designs and quality standards. The role includes a combination of field inspection, site surveys, contractor oversight, design and constructability support, construction documentation, and desktop project coordination . The Construction Inspector will support projects throughout the company's Minnesota market. Project locations will vary based on active construction schedules and are subject to change. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform quality control inspections of contractor construction activities supporting MDU fiber deployments. Inspect both ISP and OSP fiber construction , including construction performed within buildings, on private property, and throughout associated outside plant infrastructure. Monitor contractor work to ensure construction complies with approved designs, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. Meet with contractors onsite and provide field oversight throughout construction. Identify construction deficiencies, incomplete work, and quality concerns. Communicate required corrective actions to contractors and verify that corrections are properly completed. Conduct and support site surveys for upcoming MDU fiber projects. Validate existing field and building conditions prior to or during construction. Review proposed construction routes, building access points, pathways, and other constructability considerations. Observe work in progress to ensure construction procedures and materials conform to project requirements. Review construction drawings and compare designs against actual field conditions. Identify field conditions that may require changes to the original construction design. Coordinate with engineering teams when design issues or constructability challenges are identified. Provide clear field information to support design modifications and construction decisions. Support resolution of construction issues discovered once projects move from engineering into the field. Attend preconstruction and construction coordination meetings as required. Support work taking place on MDU and other private properties while maintaining professional communication with property representatives, contractors, and project stakeholders. Measure and audit completed construction quantities when required. Assist with validation of contractor work and associated billing documentation as applicable. Maintain accurate construction and inspection records. Document daily activities, construction progress, field conditions, photographs, deficiencies, and corrective actions. Prepare and submit inspection reports and progress updates. Communicate construction delays, risks, quality concerns, and field issues to project leadership. Utilize company-provided laptops and web-based project management systems to document and track construction activities. Support additional inspection, survey, construction, and project activities as market needs change. Accountability The MDU Construction Inspector is accountable for helping maintain high construction quality standards, identifying issues before project acceptance, verifying contractor work, and supporting the successful deployment of MDU fiber infrastructure. The position is responsible for construction inspection and project support and does not carry full Construction Manager responsibility for overall project budgets, schedules, contractor resources, financial performance, or end-to-end program delivery. Qualifications To perform this position successfully, an individual should be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education High school diploma or GED required. Additional telecommunications construction training, certifications, or technical education is preferred. Experience Three to five years of telecommunications construction experience preferred. Previous experience with fiber construction strongly preferred . Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable: MDU construction Inside Plant construction Outside Plant construction Aerial construction Underground construction Construction inspection Fiber site surveys Contractor oversight Construction Knowledge Working understanding of telecommunications and fiber construction practices. Understanding of the general construction lifecycle from engineering through field installation and project completion. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings. Understanding of construction quality standards and inspection practices. Territory / Travel
This position supports MDU fiber construction projects throughout the company's Minnesota market , including the greater Twin Cities metro and surrounding markets. Current projects include areas within the St. Cloud/St. Joseph region and multiple areas throughout the Twin Cities metro . Project locations will vary based on construction activity and are subject to change as projects are completed and new markets begin construction . Candidates should be comfortable traveling between active project locations as needed.
