Job Summary Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Roofing Estimator to prepare bids from plan sets for new construction and public/municipal projects. This individual will serve as an internal resource and subject-matter expert, collaborating closely with the outside estimating team to support takeoffs, review bids, and ensure accuracy and competitiveness across all active proposals. Duties and Responsibilities New Construction and Public Bid Estimating Read, interpret, and perform detailed takeoffs from full plan sets for new construction roofing projects. Prepare accurate and competitive bids for public/municipal and general contractor solicitations, including prevailing-wage and certified-payroll requirements, when applicable. Review project specifications, bid documents, addenda, and scope clarifications, incorporating all relevant requirements into estimates. Apply established labor, material, and subcontractor markups for overhead and profit, and calculate cost factors for planning and bid preparation. Prepare and submit complete proposal packages by the required deadlines. Qualify and prepare change-order estimates for approval. Organize product information, shop drawings, and samples for submittal packages, as required. Team Support and Collaboration Assist other estimators with takeoffs, quantity surveys, and bid reviews, as needed. Serve as a resource for technical questions regarding materials, systems, and scope interpretation. Participate in pre-bid strategy discussions and internal scope-review meetings. Review bids prepared by other estimators and provide feedback before submission. Communicate clearly with the operations team during pre-job handoffs, transferring detailed project knowledge. Technical and Administrative Responsibilities Maintain current knowledge of roofing design requirements, building codes, and available material systems. Identify material-cost trends and provide recommendations to management for cost reduction and process improvement. Conduct post-job cost analyses by comparing estimated costs with actual costs and recommending improvements for future estimates. Maintain accurate, complete, and organized project files and bid logs. Follow up on outstanding estimates, as required or directed. Prepare purchase-order requests and assist with procuring materials and equipment, as needed. Required Skills and Competencies Technical Knowledge Extensive knowledge of commercial roofing systems, materials, and construction methods. Demonstrated ability to perform accurate takeoffs from full architectural and structural plan sets. Understanding of new construction sequencing and general contractor bidding environments. Familiarity with public bidding processes, prevailing-wage requirements, and municipal project protocols. Understanding of local building codes and design requirements. Familiarity with roofing manufacturer systems, warranties, and submittal requirements. Estimating and Analytical Skills Proven ability to independently prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates in a high-volume environment. Strong command of estimating software and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to analyze completed project data and apply lessons learned to future bids. Strong budget awareness, including an understanding of how change orders and production variances affect job profitability. Communication and Professionalism Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and general contractors. Fluency in written and spoken English. Ability to clearly explain technical scope and pricing details to technical and non-technical audiences. Highly organized and able to manage multiple active bids simultaneously in a fast-paced office environment. Education and Experience Required Minimum of five years of commercial roofing estimating experience, with a demonstrated focus on new construction and/or public bid projects. Proven ability to independently perform takeoffs from full plan sets. High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Experience with industry-specific estimating platforms. Familiarity with local, regional, and state public bidding requirements and processes. Manufacturer certifications, such as GAF, Carlisle, Firestone, or equivalent. Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field. Physical Requirements These physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to perform extended periods of desk work, including computer use, blueprint review, and typing. Ability to sit and maintain focus for prolonged periods in an office environment. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds. Ability to safely access rooftops and navigate construction sites during occasional site visits.

Pay:

$75,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
