Job Description

Overview Murphy Contracting Company is seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to lead construction projects from initial bid through final completion. This role is responsible for estimating, budgeting, and managing projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with company standards. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of construction methods, cost control, and project coordination, and is capable of managing multiple projects while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams. This is a hands-on role that requires both office and field involvement, with a focus on delivering profitable and well-executed projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Pre-Construction Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications Conduct site visits to assess project scope and feasibility Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids Develop and submit competitive bids and proposals Identify risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options Project Management & Execution Manage projects from award through completion Develop and maintain project schedules and timelines Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams Conduct site visits to monitor progress and address project needs Ensure projects are completed on time and aligned with scope Cost Control & Financial Oversight Develop and manage project budgets and cost control systems Monitor job costs, track expenses, and maintain profitability Identify and resolve cost discrepancies throughout the project lifecycle Contracts, Change Orders & Procurement Review and manage contracts and scope of work Negotiate pricing and agreements with subcontractors and suppliers Prepare, track, and manage change orders Coordinate procurement of materials and subcontractor scopes Client & Team Communication Serve as primary point of contact for clients, architects, and stakeholders Lead project meetings and provide updates on progress, budgets, and timelines Collaborate with internal team members to ensure smooth project execution Compliance & Project Closeout Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards Maintain accurate project documentation throughout all phases Support project closeout, including final documentation and completion requirements
Qualifications Required:
Experience in construction estimating and project management within a general contracting environment Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Office tools Strong communication and organizational skills Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites Preferred Experience working for a general contractor Familiarity with commercial construction projects Experience with estimating and takeoff software (Bluebeam or similar) Knowledge of job costing, budgeting, and cost control practices Experience with contract negotiation, change orders, and procurement Knowledge of local building codes and permitting processes Field experience or hands-on construction background
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
