Foreman / Skilled Laborer Job Description This role combines hands-on construction labor with site coordination responsibilities on a large installation project. You support the installation of lower containment structures, assist skilled tradespeople, and help maintain a safe and efficient job site while working extended shifts in a dynamic construction environment. Responsibilities Work on a large construction job site supporting the installation of lower containment structures around server equipment. Spot trucks as they arrive on site, including helping unload materials, directing drivers, and ensuring safe vehicle movement. Assist with site organization by placing cones, directing forklift traffic, and maintaining clear access paths. Support skilled laborers such as welders, carpenters, and steel workers with material handling, layout, and assembly tasks. Perform general labor duties including cleanup, debris removal, and maintaining a tidy and safe work area. Use a tape measure accurately to mark, measure, and verify dimensions for fabrication and assembly work. Operate and handle a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently as part of construction and assembly tasks. Participate in the assembly and erection of steel and other structural components as directed by site leadership. Follow construction plans and basic blueprints under guidance to complete tasks in line with project specifications. Work 8-hour days during the initial phase and transition to 12-hour days as the project progresses, maintaining reliability and punctuality. Adhere to all site safety rules, including use of required personal protective equipment and safe work practices. Essential Skills Experience working on large construction job sites in a laborer or skilled laborer capacity. Ability to spot trucks safely, including unloading assistance, directing vehicles, and coordinating with equipment operators. Proficiency using a tape measure accurately for construction, fabrication, and assembly tasks. Competence with common hand tools and power tools used in construction and assembly work. Capability to perform general labor tasks such as cleanup, material handling, and site organization. Comfort working extended shifts, including 8-hour and 12-hour days, from early morning start times. Ability to follow directions from foremen and skilled tradespeople and work effectively as part of a team. Basic understanding of construction practices and familiarity with blueprints or layout instructions. Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry materials throughout long workdays in a construction environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in fabrication welding, carpentry, or steel work (including steel erection) is highly beneficial for skilled laborer duties. Experience assembling structural components or containment systems in an industrial or commercial setting. Familiarity with forklift operations and traffic flow on active job sites (as a spotter or in support roles). Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse crew; Spanish language skills are welcomed. Previous experience on containment, server infrastructure, or similar specialized construction projects is an advantage. Comfort reading and interpreting basic construction drawings or blueprints under supervision. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based on a large, active construction site focused on installing lower containment structures around server equipment. The schedule runs from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with 8-hour days in the first two weeks and a transition to 12-hour days thereafter. The work is entirely on site with no routine travel required, though some workers may receive per diem when traveling. You work primarily with construction tools, including tape measures, hand tools, and power tools, and you may assist with steel assembly and erection. The environment is physically demanding, requiring extended periods of standing, lifting, and working outdoors or in partially enclosed spaces. The dress code includes wearing jeans and steel-toe or composite-toe safety footwear, along with any additional personal protective equipment required by site safety standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Fairfax, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
