Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically skilled Shop Tacker to join our fabrication and construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately measuring, marking, and assembling metal components to ensure precise fabrication according to technical drawings and specifications. Your expertise in shop math, blueprint reading, and various welding techniques will be essential to maintaining high-quality standards. Duties Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and shop drawings to guide fabrication and assembly processes. Measure and mark metal materials using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math to ensure accurate cuts and fits. Operate power tools, hand tools, plasma cutters, and welding equipment including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and other welding techniques following AWS (American Welding Society) standards. Assist in fabricating metal components by cutting, grinding, drilling, welding, and assembling sheet metal and other metal materials with precision. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and proper handling of tools and materials. Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines while ensuring quality control through inspection of fabricated parts using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Support the assembly process by interpreting blueprints accurately and ensuring all parts are fabricated according to specifications. Qualifications Proven experience working on construction sites or in a fabrication shop environment with a focus on metal or sheet metal fabrication. Strong mechanical knowledge including blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, shop math, and understanding of mechanical fabrication principles. Skilled in welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, with knowledge of AWS standards. Proficient in the use of measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, rulers, and tape measures for precise measurements. Familiarity with construction site safety protocols and ability to follow safety guidelines diligently. Experience operating power tools such as grinders, drills, plasma cutters, and machining equipment. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately for fabrication and assembly tasks. Knowledge of construction processes including steel framing, sheet metal work, machining or plasma cutting is preferred. Basic math skills necessary for shop calculations involving measurements and dimensions. Mechanical blueprint interpretation skills combined with hands-on experience in metal fabrication are highly valued.
