Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description This role offers the opportunity to operate heavy equipment at a busy site in Curtis Bay, Maryland, primarily using excavators to load large volumes of trucks with dirt each day. You will work in a fast-paced environment where safety, precision, and efficiency are essential, contributing directly to daily production goals and overall site operations. Responsibilities Operate excavators safely and efficiently to load approximately 150200 trucks per day with dirt. Use heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and front-end loaders as needed to support site operations. Position and maneuver trucks and equipment to ensure accurate and consistent loading. Monitor load volumes and follow site guidelines to avoid overloading or underloading trucks. Perform basic equipment checks before and after use to identify and report any mechanical or safety issues. Follow all site safety procedures and environmental guidelines while operating heavy equipment. Communicate clearly with site supervisors, truck drivers, and team members to coordinate loading activities and meet daily production targets. Maintain a clean and organized work area around loading zones to support safe and efficient operations. Essential Skills Minimum of 5+ years of experience operating excavators to load trucks in a heavy equipment or construction environment. Proven ability to operate excavators safely and efficiently under high-volume, fast-paced conditions. Hands-on experience with heavy equipment operation, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and front-end loaders. Strong awareness of safety practices related to heavy equipment and truck loading. Ability to follow directions, site procedures, and environmental guidelines consistently. Reliable work habits with the ability to sustain productivity throughout the workday. Additional Skills & Qualifications Additional heavy equipment experience beyond excavator operation is a plus. Experience working in high-volume truck loading or similar industrial environments is beneficial. Ability to work collaboratively with operators, drivers, and supervisors in a team-oriented setting. The environment is production-driven, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and teamwork, and you will spend most of your day in or around heavy equipment and trucks in varying weather conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Pasadena, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
