Job Description

Commercial Roofing Service Technician $27-$29/hour + $60/day additional travel allowance Full-Time | DHI Commercial |
Lee's Summit, MO Travel:
Approximately 50-75% Looking for a job sucks. There. We said it. Scrolling through job postings that all say things like "fast-paced environment," "competitive pay," and "we're like a family" probably isn't how you planned to spend your evening. Good news! We may have found your next spot. DHI Commercial is looking for an experienced Commercial Roofing Service Technician who actually knows commercial roofing—not just someone who knows what TPO stands for. We need someone who can show up at a commercial property, get on the roof, figure out what's wrong, fix it when it can be fixed , and document what they found. Sometimes you'll be tracking down a leak. Sometimes you'll be making the repair. Sometimes you'll be inspecting a 100,000-square-foot roof and gathering everything our estimating team needs to put together a proposal. Sometimes you'll be explaining to a property manager why the leak on the floor isn't directly below the hole in the roof. If you've been doing commercial roofing for a while, you already know how that goes. This isn't a sales job disguised as a roofing job. It's not an inspector position where you take six pictures and head back to the truck. And it's definitely not a desk job. We need a roofer. A good one. Someone who can diagnose problems, work independently, make quality repairs, communicate with customers, and leave behind documentation that makes sense to someone other than the person who wrote it. Sound like you? Keep reading. Here's What You'll Actually Do Inspect commercial roofs and figure out what's going on. Track down leaks. Sometimes the obvious spot is actually the problem. Enjoy those days. Diagnose roofing problems and determine the right repair. Make the repair yourself when it can reasonably and safely be completed during the visit. Repair membranes, seams, flashings, penetrations, curbs, drains, and other common roofing components. Work with TPO, EPDM, PVC, Modified Bitumen, BUR, metal, coatings, shingles, and other roofing systems. Recognize when something is a service repair—and when it's a much bigger project. Take measurements, photos, and detailed field notes. Use Hover, EagleView, and other technology when needed. Identify access issues, safety concerns, equipment needs, drainage problems, and other things that could affect how we price or build the job. Put together complete field documentation for our Sales and Estimating teams. Document repairs with good notes and before-and-after photos. Talk with property owners and property managers without making their eyes glaze over. Keep our CRM and field software updated. Represent DHI professionally when you're at a customer's property.
Most importantly:
When you leave a property, we should know what you found, what you fixed, and what still needs to happen. We're Looking for a Roofer, Not a Résumé Maybe your current title is: Commercial Roofing Service Technician Service Foreman Commercial Roofing Foreman Lead Roofer Repair Technician Roofing Superintendent Journeyman Roofer Or something completely different because roofing companies aren't exactly known for standardized job titles. We care a lot more about what you can do than what somebody printed on your business card. You need real, hands-on commercial roofing experience. That means you can get on a roof, identify the system, diagnose a problem, determine the right way to repair it, and actually make the repair . You should know your way around multiple systems, including TPO, EPDM, PVC, Modified Bitumen, BUR, metal, coatings, and shingles. You should also be able to: Diagnose and repair commercial roof leaks independently. Use commercial roofing tools and repair equipment safely. Spot problems other people might miss. Take accurate measurements. Take photos that actually show what you're trying to document. Write field notes that another human being can understand. Use a phone/tablet and learn our field software. Talk professionally with customers. Manage your own schedule and responsibilities. Ask questions when you don't know something instead of making something up. Work independently without someone checking on you every 20 minutes. Show up when you say you're going to show up. You'll also need a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. One Important Thing This job requires hands-on commercial roofing repair experience. If your roofing experience is primarily sales, estimating, adjusting, project management, or inspecting roofs without actually repairing them, this probably isn't the right position for you. Nothing personal. We need someone who knows how to use the tools, not just identify them. What Does "Doing a Good Job" Look Like? Pretty simple. Find the problem. Fix what you can. Document everything. Communicate clearly. Don't create another problem.
More specifically:
Diagnose roofing problems correctly. Make quality repairs that solve the problem. Know when a repair isn't enough and a larger scope is needed. Catch important conditions before they turn into expensive surprises. Give our Estimating team enough information that they don't have to drive three hours back to the property because you forgot a measurement. Submit organized photos, measurements, notes, and documentation. Treat customers well. Work safely. Be someone your teammates can count on. If that sounds obvious to you, that's probably a good sign. Yep, There's Travel. We're not going to bury this at the bottom of the posting. This position travels approximately 50-75%. That includes regular multi-day and out-of-state trips. But here's the good part: You aren't paying for the trip. DHI covers approved business travel expenses, including: Hotels Meals Fuel Approved transportation expenses You'll have a company-provided credit card for approved business travel expenses. And you receive an additional $60 per day when you're on qualifying travel 75+ miles from the office. That's your additional travel allowance . DHI separately pays the approved cost of your hotel, meals, fuel, and other business travel expenses. There may also be overtime opportunities depending on workload and travel schedules. Yes, You Have to Get on the Roof We figured we'd mention that. You need to be able to: Routinely climb extension ladders, including 32-foot ladders. Safely navigate commercial rooftops. Walk, kneel, bend, and work on roof surfaces for extended periods. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Safely use commercial roofing tools and equipment. Work outside when it's hot. Work outside when it's cold. Work outside when it's windy. Work outside when the weather app promised it wouldn't be. It's commercial roofing. You know the drill. What's the Pay? $27.00-$29.00 per hour, based on experience.
Plus:
$60/day additional travel allowance for qualifying travel 75+ miles from the office.
And remember:
DHI separately covers approved hotels, meals, fuel, and other business travel expenses. Who Is DHI Commercial?
Our mission is:
Creating positively remarkable experiences by rebuilding properties and building lives.
Our Core Values are:
Honesty | Integrity | Discipline | The Golden Rule | Responsiveness Those aren't supposed to be words that live on a poster in the break room. We expect people to live them—in how they treat customers, how they treat their teammates, and in the quality of work they leave behind. Still Reading? That's encouraging. If you're an experienced commercial roofer who can find problems, fix problems, work independently, treat customers well, and doesn't need someone standing over your shoulder all day , we'd like to talk to you. Looking for a job sucks. Finding the right one doesn't have to. Apply. Let's talk.
