Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and maintaining sheet metal components used across various industries. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency in machine operation, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints accurately. Responsibilities Operate and set up a variety of sheet metal fabrication machines including press brakes, CNC laser cutters, CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, plasma cutters, stamping presses, and forming machines to produce precise components. Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly. Utilize measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring tools for quality control and measurement verification. Perform CNC programming tasks to optimize machine operation and ensure adherence to design specifications. Conduct welding, forming, and assembly of sheet metal parts following safety standards and quality protocols. Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety standards in production, including crane operation and proper handling of tools and equipment. Inspect finished products for quality assurance using measurement instruments; identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions. Set up machining tools accurately for machining processes such as CNC milling, CNC turning (lathe), electrical discharge machining (EDM), and stamping operations. Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machine issues, improve fabrication processes, and ensure timely completion of projects. Experience 3+ years of experience as a first-class Sheet Metal Worker in the installation of foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and sheet metal fabrication shop work. Marine experience preferred. Aircraft/Industrial/Commercial sheet metal experience is acceptable. Extensive knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes including plasma cutting, laser cutting, stamping, forming, and welding. Proficiency in operating CNC machinery such as laser cutters, mills, lathes, plasma cutters, and EDM equipment. Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles for precise measurement and quality control. Skilled in interpreting mechanical blueprints and technical drawings accurately. Familiarity with shop math, basic math skills necessary for measurements and calculations related to machining. Experience with safety standards in production environments including proper use of hand tools, measuring instruments, cranes, and other machinery. Ability to perform machine setup tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. Knowledge of tooling selection and maintenance for sheet metal fabrication equipment. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while adhering to strict safety protocols. Required Skills 1. Ability to comprehend complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches to include weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines. 2. Ability to comprehend fractional and decimal dimensions with the use of a ruler. 3. Ability to layoff piece parts for fabrication and assembly. 4. Ability to assemble piece parts in accordance with specifications in a quality manner. 5. Experience working in a physically demanding environment. 6. Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry. 7. Experience using small hand tools (electric drills, grinders, rivet guns), and shop equipment (drill press, press break, Shears etc.).
