Full Job Description Facility Dialysis Medical Coder Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail oriented and experienced Medical Coder specializing in Nephrology and Dialysis treatments to join our billing team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining coding accuracy, compliance, and optimal reimbursement across facility clinical encounters, and dialysis center services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review, abstract, and accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes for facility dialysis encounters (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and MCP services).
• Ensure strict adherence to CMS coding guidelines, NCCI edits, payer-specific policies, and federal billing regulations.
• Work closely with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation discrepancies, provide coding feedback, and promote documentation integrity for optimal E/M level selection.
• Work with billing team to discuss billing issues and come to a resolution that helps resolve cash flow interruptions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Required:

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC, or equivalent national certification (e.g., CCS-P through AHIMA).
• Minimum of 2 years of specialized medical coding experience specifically within Nephrology and Dialysis / ESRD services.
• Strong experience with dialysis coding and with UB04 claim forms.
• Experience navigating electronic health record (EHR) systems and claim scrubbers.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in medical billing, open accounts receivable (A/R) management, clearinghouse edits, and or drafting clinical appeal letters.
• Experience with Renvio and Waystar.
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance coverage policies for dialysis treatments and related laboratory/diagnostic procedures.

Work Location:

In-person at our Dearborn office for training and initial onboarding. Upon successful completion of onboarding and performance benchmarks, this role is eligible for a set hybrid work schedule and may be subject to relocating to our Livonia office.
