DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES AND GROUNDS

Job Description

THIS POSITION HEADQUARTERS IS LOCATED IN DORCHESTER, SC. JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to be responsible for the oversight of the operation of the day-to-day functions of the Dorchester County Facilities Department to include supervising the Landscape Manager and Buildings Manager. This position works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supervises assigned staff. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending employee discipline; and recommending discharge as appropriate.
  • Performs duties of the Director as necessary in his/her absence.
  • Writes Scope of Work (SOW) for all projects.
  • Attends all pre-bid and bid closings.
  • Schedules contractors to quote jobs.
  • Sets and meets deadlines for projects and renovations.
  • Performs weekly inspections of renovations and projects.
  • Assists Director in capital project planning.
  • Creates construction standards checklist for in house projects.
  • Oversees the HVAC Preventative Maintenance Program contract.
  • Conducts interviews on potential Facilities Department candidates.
  • Takes lead on maintaining work order system assets, reviews work orders and preventative maintenance plans to ensure completion and accountability.
  • Works closely with Buildings Manager is supply ordering for projects and renovations.
  • Reviews department purchases and locates costs savings opportunities to combine purchases, vendor selection or material selection.
  • Works with Building Manager to create construction standards checklist for in house projects, and non-capital and capital renovations.
  • Must be flexible and open to change ability to assist departmental needs based on absences and vacations.
  • Works with Landscape Manager in supervising and performing grounds maintenance, parking lot and walkway maintenance, and campus beautification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in building trade(s), facility maintenance, building construction or a closely related field. At least two (2) years of facility maintenance, building construction or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Managerial experience in the facilities field or related field required..
Special Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Certification for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) or electrical maintenance and repair. preferred. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing. E.O.E.
