Lower School Math Specialist Part-Time | 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. | Immediate Opening The Lower School Math Specialist supports The Gooden School's lower school mathematics program by providing targeted small-group instruction, collaborating with classroom teachers, and teaching 4th Grade Accelerated Math. This position works closely with teachers and administrators to meet the needs of a range of learners and to help students develop strong mathematical skills, confidence, and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate is flexible, organized, collaborative, and a self-starter who enjoys working with elementary-aged students and contributing to the larger life of the school. The Lower School Math Specialist reports to the Assistant Head of School and Head of School. As a member of The Gooden School staff, the Math Specialist is expected to uphold the school's mission and motto, "Respect for Self, Respect for Others, and Respect for the World," in all areas of school life, consistent with the expectations established for Gooden's specialist faculty. Student Support & Instruction Provide small-group math instruction and support for lower school students. Work with students who need additional reinforcement, practice, or challenge in mathematics. Teach 4th Grade Accelerated Math, including planning lessons, providing instruction, assessing student progress, and communicating with families as appropriate. Use engaging, developmentally appropriate instructional strategies to meet the needs of a range of learners. Help students develop mathematical fluency, conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence. Observe student progress and collaborate with classroom teachers to determine appropriate support and enrichment. Maintain a positive learning environment with high expectations for student engagement and behavior. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate closely with lower school classroom teachers to identify students who would benefit from additional math support or enrichment. Coordinate small-group instruction with classroom curriculum and learning goals. Communicate student progress and needs with teachers and administrators. Participate in Student Support Team meetings when appropriate. Work collaboratively and enthusiastically with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and families. Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to respond to the changing needs of students and the school. School & Community Responsibilities Assist with lunch, recess, and other student supervision duties as assigned. Attend Chapel, meetings, and other school activities that occur during scheduled work hours as appropriate. Support school-wide expectations, including Responsive Classroom and Restorative Discipline practices. Participate as an engaged member of the Gooden community. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School or Head of School. Qualifications & Attributes The successful candidate will: Have experience teaching elementary mathematics; a teaching credential and/or relevant degree is preferred. Have a strong understanding of elementary mathematics instruction and differentiated learning. Be comfortable working with both students who need additional support and students ready for accelerated mathematics. Be highly organized, dependable, and flexible. Be a self-starter who can identify needs and take initiative. Be a collaborative team player who communicates effectively with colleagues. Demonstrate warmth, patience, and enthusiasm when working with children. Understand and support the mission and values of an Episcopal school.
