Payroll Clerk IV

Job Description

Employment Type:
Full-Time Represented Position, Required to work in office.
Schedule:
8:00AM to 5:00PM or 8:30AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday (Excluding Observed Holidays)
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
High School Graduate or GED equivalent Associate's degree in accounting, business or Public Administration, or related field. Three (3) years of payroll accounting experience
Knowledge of:
Applicable State and Federal Statues, rules, codes, and regulations governing payroll and benefits. Sum knowledge of Cash Accounting Payroll and benefits methods and procedures Principles and practices of public sector personnel administration, confidential records management, and effective customer service practices. Accounting principles and methods, including special funds and tax procedures. Computer records keeping and file maintenance principles and procedures.
Skills in:
Interpreting and applying city policies and federal, State and local laws governing payroll. Maintaining payroll documentation; verifying and reconciling payroll information and reports. Meeting deadlines and strict time frames for payroll processing. Correcting and updating financial information systems and generating reports Performing mathematical calculations and entering numerical data into a computer system with skill and accuracy. Preparing, maintaining, and reviewing human resource records, reports, and documentation. Operating a computer utilizing standard and specialized software Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships Communicating effectively; verbally and in writing. Ability to fluently speak, read and write the English language. Ability to work independently and as a team-player. Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Ability to handle repetitive monthly tasks as this position is repetitive in nature. Ability to understand and follow through with verbal and written instructions Employment Eligibility Must be legally able to work in the United States Must have a valid Washington or Oregon driver's license Must be at least 18 years of age As a condition of employment, direct deposit for payroll is required. Ability to comply with federal, Drug free Workplace Act of 1988 and city policies.
Nature of Work:
Under general supervision, processes bi-monthly payroll, payroll vendor payments, files state and federal quarterly reports, maintains employee payroll records and assists with benefit administration.
