Tax Manager | McKinney, TX | $125,000 to $150,000 | Hybrid You have already proved you can manage the work. The bigger question is whether your current firm can show you what comes next. I am representing an independent CPA firm in McKinney TX that is looking for an experienced Tax Manager who wants to stay close to clients and technical tax work, while gaining more exposure to leadership, advisory work and the wider running of the practice. For the right person, Partnership can be part of that conversation. There is no automatic promotion and no artificial timeline attached to it. What you will get is greater visibility with the people leading the firm, broader responsibility and a clearer understanding of what you would need to demonstrate to move into a longer term leadership position. What could be different here? Your value will not be limited to getting returns reviewed and deadlines met. You will own client relationships throughout the year, become more involved in tax planning and advisory work and have a stronger voice in how clients are supported. You will also work closely with leadership and gain exposure to the parts of public accounting that become increasingly important as you move beyond Manager. That means developing people, making judgement calls around client service, understanding the commercial side of the practice and contributing to conversations about how the firm continues to grow. It is still a hands on tax role. You just have more room to show what else you can do. The role You will manage a varied portfolio of individual and business clients, including individuals, partnerships, S Corporations and C Corporations. You will review tax engagements, lead client communication throughout the year and provide practical tax guidance alongside the compliance work. You will work with the leadership team on planning and advisory projects, manage workflow across your engagements and make sure both clients and the internal team know what needs to happen next. Developing junior accountants will also be an important part of the position, helping them improve technically and become more confident dealing directly with clients. As you become established, there will be scope to contribute more broadly to team development, client service and the direction of the practice. Who could fit? You will need around four to five years or more of public accounting tax experience, with a strong grounding across both individual and business taxation. CPA or EA is required. You should already be comfortable owning client relationships, making sound technical decisions, balancing competing priorities and helping less experienced accountants develop. This could be particularly relevant if you still enjoy public accounting, but do not want the next few years to become an endless cycle of reviews, deadlines and busy seasons without a clearer idea of where your career is going. Maybe you are already taking on more responsibility but cannot see where that extra effort leads. Maybe Partnership gets mentioned, but nobody has explained what you actually need to demonstrate to get there. Or maybe you simply want to work somewhere your judgement, client relationships and contribution are more visible to the people making decisions. The attraction is not another Tax Manager title. It is having somewhere meaningful to go next. Compensation $125,000 to $150,000 Hybrid working in McKinney, Texas. Prefer to talk before sharing your resume, no problem. Call me on 972 807 7244.
