Far fewer firms can explain what that route actually involves. As an experienced Tax Manager, you have probably heard some version of this before: "We see you as Partner material." It sounds positive, but the detail is often missing. There is no clear timeline, no real explanation of what needs to happen next, and no certainty that the opportunity will ever materialize. Over time, it can become difficult to tell whether you are genuinely moving forward or simply becoming more important in the role you already have. This opportunity offers more clarity. An established independent CPA firm in McKinney, TX is looking for a Tax Manager who wants to build towards Partner and is ready to have an open conversation about what that could look like from the beginning. This is the kind of environment where you can remain close to clients, work directly with the leadership team, and understand how the firm operates beyond your own portfolio. Your contribution will be visible. Your judgement will matter. You will have the opportunity to influence client service, team development, and the continued direction of the practice rather than simply managing another busy season. You will lead client relationships, review complex tax work, support planning and advisory projects, and help develop junior accountants. Just as importantly, you will become involved in the wider conversations that shape the future of the firm. For someone asking what their experience is ultimately building towards, this could provide a much clearer answer. Why this opportunity stands out A genuine opportunity to build towards Partner within an established independent CPA firm. Direct access to the firm's leadership team and meaningful involvement in the future of the practice. Ownership of client relationships, advisory work, and important decisions, rather than being limited to technical review. The opportunity to mentor and develop junior accountants while continuing to strengthen your own leadership skills. A collaborative working environment where your judgement, ideas, and contribution are visible and valued. Competitive compensation of $125,000 to $150,000, plus bonus. What you will be doing Review and manage tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and other business entities. Lead client relationships throughout the year, providing practical advice alongside tax compliance. Support tax planning and advisory projects in partnership with the firm's leadership team. Maintain strong technical standards across your client portfolio. Coach and develop junior members of the team. Manage workflow, client communication, deadlines, and engagement progress. Work closely with firm leadership on client service, team development, and the continued growth of the practice. What we are looking for Public accounting tax experience (5-8 years) CPA or EA required. Strong technical knowledge across individual and business taxation. Confidence managing client relationships independently. Someone who enjoys developing people as much as delivering high quality client work. A long term mindset and genuine interest in progressing towards Partner. You do not need to match every point perfectly to start a conversation. The firms I work with often place just as much value on judgement, attitude, leadership potential, and long term fit as they do on a perfect résumé. Interested? Apply through LinkedIn or call me on 972 807 7244 for a confidential conversation. I am usually available from 6:00am CST and again after 5:00pm CST.
