Job Description
Tax Manager | CPA Firm McKinney, Texas | Hybrid $125,000 to $150,000 CPA or EA required You have already proved you can manage the work. The bigger question now is whether your current firm can show you what comes next. This independent CPA firm in McKinney is looking for an experienced Tax Manager who wants to remain close to clients and technical tax work, while gaining greater exposure to leadership, advisory work, and the wider running of the practice. For the right person, Partnership is part of that conversation. There is no promise of an automatic promotion or artificial timeline. What the firm can offer is the chance to work closely with the people leading the practice, take on broader responsibility, and have a genuine conversation about how you could develop into a longer term leadership position. What could be different here You will have direct visibility with the people running the firm and a stronger voice in how clients are managed. Rather than sitting primarily in a review role, you will own client relationships, lead conversations throughout the year, and become more involved in tax planning and advisory work. You will also have the opportunity to develop the leadership and commercial judgment that becomes increasingly important as you move beyond Tax Manager. That includes developing staff, managing engagements, making decisions around client service, and contributing to conversations about the continued growth of the practice. It is still a hands on tax position. The difference is that the role is designed to give you room to become more than the person responsible for getting returns reviewed and deadlines met. The work You will manage a varied portfolio of individual and business clients, including individuals, partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and other entities. You will review tax engagements, lead client communication throughout the year, and provide practical tax guidance alongside the compliance work. You will work with the leadership team on tax planning and advisory projects, manage workflow across your engagements, and make sure clients and internal teams know what is happening and when. You will also coach junior accountants, helping them improve technically and become more confident in their own client work. As you become established in the firm, you will have the opportunity to contribute more broadly to client service, team development, and the direction of the practice. What they are looking for You will need at least four to five years of public accounting tax experience and strong knowledge of both individual and business taxation. A CPA or EA is required. You should already be comfortable owning client relationships, making sound technical decisions, managing competing priorities, and helping junior professionals develop. This will probably suit someone who still enjoys the technical side of tax, but does not want their career to become an endless cycle of reviews, deadlines, and busy seasons. This could make sense if You are already doing more than your title suggests, but there is little clarity around where that extra responsibility leads. You have been told Partnership could be possible one day, but nobody has been able to explain what you would need to do to get there. Or you simply want to join a smaller independent firm where your judgment, client relationships, and contribution are more visible to the people making decisions. The attraction here is not another Tax Manager title. It is the chance to make a move that gives you somewhere meaningful to go next. Interested? You do not need an updated résumé or a perfectly rehearsed reason for considering a move. Apply through Indeed or call me directly on 972 807 7244 for a confidential conversation. I am usually available from 6:00am CST and again after 5:00pm CST .
