Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Empower students with visual impairments to navigate their world confidently by providing essential Orientation and Mobility (O&M) instruction across various school settings. This contract opportunity will have you serving a diverse group of VI students—from 2nd grade through high school—by tailoring lessons that help them achieve greater independence. With 37.5 hours each week, you'll have the flexibility to craft your own schedule that aligns with IEP requirements and maximizes support for students.
Key Qualifications:
Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) Hold, or be eligible for, a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) teaching certificate Demonstrated experience working with visually impaired children or adolescents Excellent communication, collaboration, and record-keeping skills Ability to travel between multiple school sites as needed
Role Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive mobility assessments for students with visual impairments in compliance with IEP directives Design and implement individualized O&M plans to foster student independence in indoor and outdoor environments Deliver direct instruction to students both individually and in small groups, adapting to a range of ability levels Collaborate with educational teams, parents/guardians, and external partners to deliver coordinated services Provide training and consultation to school staff on mobility issues, safety guidelines, and best practices Maintain thorough and timely documentation for student progress and compliance This onsite-only assignment, located in a vibrant educational community, allows you to enrich lives while exercising professional autonomy.
