ABOUT US
Little France is a family-run French patisserie founded by two French pastry chefs, with locations in Mission Viejo and Newport Beach. We pair French craftsmanship with made-from-scratch pastries, cakes, macarons, and a full espresso bar. Featured on Netflix and supported by a loyal community of regulars, we care deeply about quality, consistency, and warm hospitality.
THE ROLE
You will run the front of house: welcome guests, take orders, prepare drinks, plate pastries, and keep the counter clean and organized. Weekends are fast-paced and high-volume, so we are looking for someone who stays composed, efficient, and welcoming under pressure.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Prepare espresso drinks to recipe and quality standards, including consistent latte art (rosetta and heart minimum). Take and process orders accurately and efficiently on the POS; handle cash, cards, and mobile payments. Greet guests warmly, make thoughtful recommendations, and create strong relationships with regulars. Plate and package pastries, cakes, and macarons to presentation standards. Restock the case, bag cookies and macarons, and prepare to-go items during downtime. Maintain a clean, organized front of house throughout the shift, including the bar, equipment, display case, dining room, restrooms, and guest areas. Open and close the front of house according to the checklist. Communicate proactively with the kitchen and manager, and raise issues before they become problems.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
1+ year of barista experience in a specialty coffee or cafe setting. Latte art skills you can demonstrate on your first shift. Comfortable using a POS system and working accurately with numbers. Stays calm, focused, and positive during high-volume rushes. Takes initiative, stays productive during downtime, and notices what needs attention without waiting to be asked. Weekend availability (Saturday and Sunday) and reliable transportation. California Food Handler Card, or willingness to obtain one.
Bonus:
pastry/bakery counter experience, French language skills, or experience building strong relationships with regular guests.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and move for extended periods throughout the shift. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks as needed.
SCHEDULE
Shifts are scheduled between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Weekend availability is required; weekday shifts vary based on business needs.
HOW WE HIRE
Every application is reviewed personally. Qualified candidates will begin with a brief phone conversation, followed by a paid working interview so we can see your skills in action and you can get a feel for our team and environment. We are looking for someone who takes pride in the details, cares about the guest experience, and wants to be part of a small, serious team. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Little France Coffee & Bakery is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants with criminal histories will be considered in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act.
